It's been happening for months now. The calls don't appear to be coming from inside the US, so it's not quite so simple.

Yep. NPR has honestly had the most thorough coverage I could find on the larger subject, and even those articles are months old.

It really hasn't been given the national attention it should be getting. More people would likely recognize George Santos's drag pictures than know about this.
