Yeah, I will confess I have never thought about this in the context of a… Super donator. I thought about that Icelandic app so that you wouldn’t date your relative, but not that. I wonder how many generations before it will be a real problem.

How many clinics do you have to donate splooge at that in order to trigger suspicion??
Sir-Kevly t1_j7s215s wrote
I don't think anyone is blaming the donors. They're just doing their thing. The problem is that you need a bit of genetic variety or else you end up like Iceland where you have to download an app to check if you're dating a relative.

There is a picture online of the “cousin explainer” chart in cross-stitch. Long ago a scientific article said it’s okay to marry 3rd cousins, so somebody should keep an eye out for that sort of thing.
BelleFlower420 t1_j7uqukf wrote
No, some of us (donor conceived people) blame these donors. Serial donors (especially private ones) know exactly what they are doing. They've spoken to our communities. They know what we dislike, feel trauma over and how we feel about strict sibling limits. They absolutely don't care. These particular donors are narcissistic and this is a borderline fetish for them. Most will only donate by 'natural insemination'.

It depends on how "informal" your donations are.
BelleFlower420 t1_j7uqhhd wrote
The clinics aren't connected state to state, so you could donate in each state and conceive the maximum amount of donor conceived children in those states (anywhere between 35 and 100). After that, you could donate privately as much as you wanted.
Modern_Bear t1_j7rpl1w wrote
Basically there are calls to "rub out" prolific donations.
Hopeful_Hamster21 t1_j7scvwd wrote
It's a big ask that's really "hard on" clinics trying to meet it.

But how should regulators “erect” barriers to excessive donation?

I wonder how much of this is due to the impact of the recent legislative changes and further pushes to force the disclosure of identifying information of donors to conceived children (without their consent) reducing the pool of willing donors, meaning the more, shall we say committed, donors to be a higher %.

Why would it be traumatic to find out you have a lot of half-siblings? I can easily imagine it would be disappointing, or exciting, depending on how you feel about missing out on time with them vs the possibility of future time with them.
I wonder if DNA ancestry testing is popular in Australia. It would be really cool if these places that provide donor services were able/willing to provide recipients or the offspring with free test kits to help avoid unpleasant surprises.

Is this a massive political crisis in Australia? Or more the usual crazed gibberish to distract you from what they're actually doing? Have they decided to set the Great Barrier Reef on fire?
