It's supposed to be 80°F in Birmingham tomorrow...

Yeah, it's been swinging between ~40'F and ~80'F. What's crazy to me is we'll probably look back on this fondly at some point, as more extreme weather fluctuations take hold (as I understand it).

Yea I saw a headline about ‘country braces for blizzard”. And I was here in NC saying “wait, which country because I’m in the mountains and get snow regularly, but forecasts put us in the 70s this week”

Well Alabama and California are both in the same hemisphere. Australia is not. While yes the US has drastic temp changes across the country but not as extreme. It's record breaking if it hits the expected temp tomorrow.

Nah, that's way north. The pass you have to worry about here is Mormon Pass. But the only thing worrisome there might be having to endure a spiriting round of "Put your Shoulder to the Wheel".

I served my Mormon mission there. I was just down the road from Wrightwood this time of the year my 1st year out and we got snowed in. It was kinda a blast & would have been more if at the time Mormon missionary apartments didn't suck for sitting around in.

It's going to be 55 in St. Louis. It was nearly 70 yesterday.

Perhaps not as warm as Birmingham, but that's easily 30 degrees warmer than it should be this time of year. I'm not complaining at all, but it's just weird for me to see headlines like "Winter weather stretching across the country from Los Angeles to Boston!" and I'm outside yesterday in short sleeves and no jacket like it's April.

Hell, the forecast for the next week looks pretty pleasant. Not as warm as yesterday, but it should be a lot worse in February.

My father in law was working up in the Sacramento area. He left Wednesday morning to make sure he didn’t get stuck up there, because he was supposed to come home Friday. As he was coming home, he said the conditions were already getting bad.

SoCal here. The mountains will look awesome next week when all this clears. Brace yourself for photos of downtown LA a front wide panoramas of snowy mountains.

In the meantime, here’s the live feed from an eagle’s nest (yes real bald Eagle) in Big Bear. https://www.youtube.com/live/B4-L2nfGcuE?feature=share

That's the problem. Global warming was some dumb early messaging and now the right wing idiots meme that shit even though the real and proper description is climate change. And even more proper is "rapid climate change that poses a challenge to way of life for every living thing"

I moved here's 5 years ago they're in the polar vortex. It's definitely gotten warmer every year but this year is just scary. Sturgeon spearing on lake Winnebago had to be done from the shore because the ice was so thin nobody would drive on it.

We drove our RV from Palm Springs to NorCal today, up and over Grapevine. Was happy to get through before the snow hit. Crazy how green is it throughout Cali right now. I have never seen it so green in all my years!

It's not "one month" of warmer weather. It's a steady pattern of increasingly warmer winters with less and less precipitation. I said February because it's February right now, not because it's a single anomalously warm month.

1

lifevicarious t1_j9rsr6r wrote

You said one February . If you meant all winter say all fucking winter. Don’t blame me for calling you out on what you said as opposed to what you now say you meant. Even if all winter that’s weather. Not global warming. Milwaukee hit a high temp of 62 in Feb in 1984. One month or one winter or one day is weather. Years and decades is climate change. So again, your stated example is just as bad as grandmas.

lifevicarious t1_j9ru998 wrote

Jesus fucking Christ dude. You didn’t say trend. You said all of February. Three fucking weeks is not a trend. It’s not pedantic. If you don’t want to be called out for saying something incorrect don’t say something incorrect. For the third time three fucking weeks of warmer than average is just as stupid as grandma arguing against global warming based on a blizzard where it’s usually warm.
