Doubt the kid was connected to the disappearances but knowing where the car was abandoned could help a lot.

If you read the article the kid stated that he was told to pick up the car. Police went through his phone verified the texts and calls came from a man who had a warrant for fraud. Later the police got high quality footage of the man cleaning out the car wearing gloves prior to him contacting the kid to pick up the car.
