Any recommendations for rentals in Mid-North NJ that wouldn't mind two large (50ish pounds) doggys. I'm struggling to find anywhere in NJ that will allow large dogs, nevermind somewhere affordable. A house would be ideal, but I'm not able to pay the crazy 10k a month prices I've seen in my area. Is it just not NJ's vibe to have big dogs in rentals? Would I be better off moving to the south hahahahaha even considering a room at this point :(

EDIT: Did not mean my budget is up to 10k, I am poor.

I’m going to be of zero help but as the owner of a Newfoundland and golden retriever I am going to say 50ish pounds is officially a medium sized dog not large.

Unfortunately rentals seems to only split them up as small or large from what I've seen :( So I'm considering them the latter since they aren't fitting in any handbags haha

Our old complex in plainsboro (is that too South?) allows 2dogs. They have breed restrictions tho.

Edit:it's the crossings complex, I know they allowed 2 pets as of early 2021

10k a month? Shouldn’t have a problem finding a place with that budget.

Idk how far north you are... but most Spaxel properties allow large dogs...but they do have breed restrictions.

Often when a listing says "no pets" they mean "no dogs" and when they mean "no dogs" they mean only "dogs that are destructive or a liability for insurance e.g. pit bulls" This sort of thing is often negotiable. If you're set on a certain area and having trouble finding place, try working with a good realtor. This is why we pay them fees.

Chatham has an apt complex that allows dogs of any size. Morristown has a few as well.

I’ve seen someone train a medium size pit sit a backpack with it’s head poking out so it could ride on the subway. Just tell the landlords he is small enough to fit in a backpack.

If anything they may have weight limits but it’s possible. You can also try looking to rent a house for the 2k rather than apartments. I’m in Bergen county and we pay 2400 for a 3 bedroom home. There are occasional gems out there. Best of luck.

Get them certified as emotional support animals it’s super easy and then the landlord can’t say no

Oxford Arms in Edison can be lenient on dog size when I lived her a couple years ago

I had this issue with my two pitties and my realtor talked to the landlord for me. And we came to an agreement for me to get rental insurance . I just had to get rental insurance and send them a copy. It wasn’t expensive, I don’t remember how much but I know it was less than 20 dollars a month.

This is central jersey, but Queens Gate apartments in bound brook has large dogs around. Big path out back to walk dogs and smaller exercise areas.

Register the dogs as service dogs online and then a they cannot be denied and you do not have to tell them ahead of time

The Avalon building in Bloomfield allowed dogs while I was there, but it's a monthly fee. Also it's right by the train station so the rent is on the high side. I honestly would not recommend them, but many people had big dogs there.

-Chatham Arms in Chatham, NJ

-Chatham on Main in Chatham, NJ

-Eagle Rock Apartments in West Orange, NJ

-Llewelyn Terrace Apartments in West Orange, NJ

A lot of the highrises in Edgewater and North Bergen allow large dogs. My apartment in Bergen county didn’t specify breed or weight but had to approve him. He’s a 85lb American bully so I was concerned, I brought all kinds of receipts and references and also had him become my daughters emotional support animal.

I used to bring him to dog daycare at a place called Strut Your Pup in Guttenberg, they have dogs that come there for daycare daily and I would say 90% of their clientele are in apartments in North Bergen, Edgewater, Fort Lee, Cliffside and West New York. They also do pet taxis where they pick up and drop off like 40 dogs each day about half of them large breeds. If I were you I would call them and ask them if they could give you a list of the apartment complexes they routinely pickup large dogs from.

Rents around $2500

How did the whole process go for you? Were you looking at a place that didn’t allow dogs? When did you mention you had an ESA? I’m moving to Jersey city with two 90 lb dogs and they both are ESA certified but where I live is wayyy different from Jersey housing.
