From context, I think you mean the Newport development(s) along the Hudson River in Jersey City.
I don't know what to tell you, but telling others you mean Jersey City (or even maybe posting in r/JerseyCity with some questions) might help some.

Newport is a town towards the bay in Cumberland county. Southwest of Millville and north of Fortescue.
If it’s not a town, I’m not sure what to categorize it, but people say they are from Newport.

Saying Newport is fine. I’m from Jersey City. Saying Newport is like saying Chelsea if you’re in Manhattan. JC natives specify where they’re from by saying their section. The Heights, Greenville, The Hill, Westside….
