I remember the Peanuts were by themselves by the TV listings. And then one or two pages away was the bulk of the comic strips, spread across two pages. On the upper left was a big rectangle with single frame comics like Lockhorns, Ziggy, and Family Circus. Below on the left was the serious comics like Prince Valiant. On the right was another column of funnies like For Better & for Worse. And then on the right page was another column with things like Beetle Bailey, Andy Capp, Mutt & Jeff, and others.

A friend and I are trying to remember the layout and we're drawing blanks. I can't find images online anywhere. I even created a Google drawing of the layout.

Any help appreciated.

A NJ public library may have microfilms/microfiche/microwhatever of old Star Ledger editions. A while back I went to the Newark Public Library and looked up newspaper articles from the 50s.

YES. Was there a serious one too near Prince Valiant?

If it helps, I remember nothing of Prince valiant, but Hagar the Horrible I do recall. Which is such a weird specific comic that I thought must have been a fever dream, because nobody else has heard of it.

From today's comic pages - some of these might be helpful for your memory...Dennis the Menace (single frame), Momma, Wizard of Id, Shoe, Blondie, Sally Forth, Mother Goose and Grimm, Funky Winkerbean, Dilbert, Peanuts, plus a bunch of others that I think are relatively recent additions.

I remember Prince Valiant as only a Sunday comic? Also, Cathy was around in the 80's with Hi and Lois. There's also a couple a very old ones that are gone now: Mary Worth, Apartment 3G, Rex Morgan, MD.

Funky is one of the few comics where the characters actually aged. Funky and friends are grown with their own adult kids now. It's going to end at the end of this year.

Wow. I hope it ends on a high note. I always enjoyed the teenage angst of Funky.

For Better or For Worse was another comic where the characters aged. But you're right - it's extremely rare.
