I’m looking into getting a new electrical panel in my house so I can use a level 2 charger for my car. My current panel can’t support the level 2 charger. PSEG has some rebates on their site but it’s awfully hard to navigate. It looks like there is a $1,500 rebate for certain installs and that maybe they also may offer a rebate for the charger itself, but I can’t exactly tell. PSEG is nearly impossible to get on the phone.

My electrician is reluctant to assure me that my projects would be all or partially covered. I’m wondering if anyone’s done it, how much they got reimbursed for, and/or if there are any electricians on this sub that may specialize in this kind of stuff.

Thanks!

Call PSEG? That would be my first step.

I ran a line for a level 2 charger and since it was a long run, the cost was about 1400. The rebate program covered the whole cost of the installation. The process is easy to navigate. They did not cover the cost of the charger itself.

The EV charging program has its own line. I had someone on the phone and all my questions answered in under 5 minutes.

Short version is this… You’ll have to get a permit if your township requires it, once that’s approved you have the work done, get it inspected, then send everything to PSE&G. It’s all done through an online portal.
