I've never bought from a private seller but I may soon with a car I'm going to look that this weekend. I also hear it's sort of a hassle with the DMV?
To my understanding with the seller, after we finalize on payment I just need the title with the back signed by both parties as well as the bill of sale?
For me, I need to set up insurance after I buy the car, and then take the title and have it registered at the DMV where I'll get my plates in the same visit? Thing is, it seems like you're unable to just walk in and do this. You need to make an appointment which seems to be available 3 days ahead.
So if this is the case, I'm not even able to drive the car anywhere until I have this the title registered. Meaning the car has to sit somewhere for 3 days at least.
Is there anything I'm missing here? Seems very inefficient in 2022 lol.

That’s pretty much how it works. You can activate the insurance on the car the day the title is handed to you from the seller though. Can the seller come to you to complete the sale? He can then leave with the $ and plates. Maybe you could pay for his Uber home.
