Hi,

I recently received a letter from North Bergen Municipal Court about a permit parking violation ticket that was supposedly written on 04/21/2021 yesterday at 12/22/2022. I have no recollection traveling to North Bergen that day at the height of the COVID pandemic. They said I was park at BLVD Riverview South.

I tried to locate that street on the map but I could not find it. Any idea where that area is?

Call the court. I had a similar issue from a town I never heard of. Turns out the court had trouble reading the officer's handwriting and entered it wrong.

Same here. Decades ago. Ticket was a parking violation in Red Bank on a day I hadn't been to Red Bank (as I am rarely there). They dropped the ticket but wouldn't confirm that in writing, the bastards.

Yep, same here. I was told to ignore it by the municipal court but they wouldn't put it in writing.

There's a Riverview Drive South in James J. Braddock park.

Can you demonstrate where you, in fact, were?

Any receipts that show anything?

I realize.. but having records that refute the charge can make it a simple matter to dismiss...

Like the E-ZPass photo that had My plate number on a car that didn't match my registration. (Out of state, different vehicle, just the same plate number!) Once the model could be identified, refutation was simple.

Parking tickets are treated as civil matters and there is not the same burden of proof as a crime, nor the right to remain silent. The prosecution does not need to prove you guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt.” It’s up to you to defend yourself, if you want to bother doing that (almost never worth it).

Basically the court will treat it as your word vs the officer’s and in the absence of hard evidence the officer is going to win.

I was likely sleeping at 12:30 AM but later that day, I was at a local Costco near my house.
