When i was at homedepot a salesman approached me with a homedepot vest on saying he reps some company and they were offering a $39 furnace tuneup (paid and done by aj perry). Is that the normal price or is this some sort of scam? Or something like an oil change where they get in and try to sell you on needing a ton of stuff?

Definitely a scam. I pay about $250/year for my furnace tune-up. Yes, it’s a lot of cash but he has given me solid advice on home heating efficiency without up-charging me for extra services.

Probably Chinney Sweep Scam. The look at your boiler & chimney then tell you that you need a stainless steal chimney liner because your terra cotta liner is falling apart.

Not to be trusted. They tried to scam my son into getting a new furnace when he definitely did not need one. When I was doing energy audits 7-12 years ago a few people told me AJ Perri said they needed new HVAC systems. They didn’t.

Find a local hvac company and get a fall tune up service. It is usually cleaning the flame sensor (builds up with dust), changing filter, turning on your humidifier, etc. I pay around $250 per system (2 furnaces and ACs) for a service contract: fall and spring service plus top of the list for emergency service. Shit happens, had a fuse blow on the control board for one of our 2 year old systems back in june 2021 during peak heat. They were out next day and ran a new wire from the AC since that had a short somewhere that blew the fuse. Worth it.

I pay about $250 a year for both my furnace (gas) and central A/C maintenance. The other thing is that when you have an annual contract like this with a company you can get same day service when something breaks.
Definitely the interiors of gas furnaces get dirty and need to be vacuumed, plus they usually check the electrical components to make sure they are still within spec. Plus all this https://sanbornsac.com/furnace-tune-up-checklist/. Here's a list of what to expect for an oil burner https://allproheat.com/other/sparta-nj-oil-burner-tune-up-cleaning/.
AJ Perry has a poor rep. I wouldn't do business with them. Find a local HVAC person to do maintenance on your equipment. Ask your neighbors or if you have a local FB group for your town you can ask there.
While you're at it, don't forget to get your dryer vacuumed out and your dryer vent cleaned out. Should do that every few years to prevent dryer fires.

my condo association requires the dryer vent cleaned every two years along with a chimney inspection. a good company will not charge you for services you don't need. we got our chimney inspection done this summer and the guy who did it did not try to sell us on needing a sweep (we had one last year from the same company) which i appreciated.

Find a local company to you that has been in business a long time, smaller companies won’t last if they are bad. AJ Perry are the worst I could go on about what my experience was but we’d be here all day. If you allow AJ Perry in I guarantee you they will find something else wrong and it will be up charged through the roof. Crooks.

This is a sales tool. Just like the $99 drain cleaning. They just want to get in the house and they can start selling. Their services are overpriced.

scam anything with aj perry is a scam.
its a way for them to get into the door and tell you your unit is about to blow up and they will put one in next day for some stupid price but if you sign right there they will give you a 15% discount. or some crap like that.
they stole thousands from my parents because they didnt know better. the scumb bags tried to sell my parents a new system for a super inflated place. i told the guy to leave.
they also disconnected the ac wires so they have to come back in the summer to "turn it on"

Scam, almost certainly.. A. j. Perri has spent a good amount of time recently under state review and it didn't end well.
Get a good plumber (one your neighbors recommend). If the furnace is gas, see what PSE&G is offering. Stay away from a)Home Depot and b) A J Perri.
