Cute kitty!
Can you clarify: is this a cat you just found - with the collar & bell on? (so potentially lost / separated from its family, or dumped.) Or a cat you took in from outside a while ago, and can no longer care for?
Those situations have different paths to good outcomes... let us know. Also, important to know where you are in NJ.

it was a cat we found a few weeks ago. I think my little cousins bought the collar for him. Yeah we don't have permission from the landlord to keep him unfortunately.

Thanks for taking care of this little guy! I foster for a few rescue groups in Hudson County, but don't know any groups that could help in your area.
If you don't get any good leads here, you could reach out to rescue groups in your area to see if they can help find a home for the cat. Petfinder.com is very useful for finding local rescue groups... here's what I found around Metuchen:

There’s a rescue in East Brunswick—not sure if that’s close enough for you. They’re on route 18 (new beginnings animal rescue). They might be able to help!
Edit to add website

shatteredverve OP t1_iy5ouhr wrote
yeah no chip

Call a volunteer rescue agency. If you can’t find one, ask Petco or Pet Smart for recommendations. Or ask a local vet. Don’t hand a helpless animal over to some rando from the internet.

Did you find him with the collar and bell?
shatteredverve OP t1_iy5zniq wrote
no. We added the collar and the bell.
Danitay t1_iy67ixe wrote
Fyi the bells can be very annoying to the cat because of their heightened hearing of frequencies.
whatsasimba t1_iy6guzf wrote
I'm not OP, but I had to put bells on the kitties who came to live here, because they were scaring the crap out of my half-blind pup. She came from an abusive situation (which is how she came to be blind in one eye) and is pretty timid most of the time. Every once in a while, one of the cats would suddenly appear in her field of vision, and she chose violence.
Danitay t1_iy6iti3 wrote
Well yes obviously for a household with a blind pet, a bell for the other pet would be beneficial.

What date did you find him? He looks like a lost cat I saw a flyer on FB for…let me see if I can find it!
Edit: This cat was lost in Red Bank, so I doubt it’s the same cat given the distance, but they look alike to me.

no he wasn't anywhere near redbank. I found him near new brunswick

I don't have a Facebook account (would have PM'd the OP), but maybe it's worth sending this link? You're right the distance makes it less likely, but we can hope!

OP is sus they said in one response they don't have the space to keep the cat, and in another response say that the landlord won't let them keep it 🚩🚩🚩🚩 don't let the stranger on the other end of that picture make you forget that this is the internet and it's not a good idea to meet up with them, especially when they could have just taken the cat to a shelter and surrendered it without trying to place it with you
shatteredverve OP t1_iy729x8 wrote
you can check my profile. Its true the landlord said no which is why we dont have a space for him. I wish i could keep him.
vanillaux t1_iy8pge8 wrote
You shouldn't be asking for strangers on the Internet to adopt the cat. Take it to a shelter like a normal person or place it with someone you know IRL via your personal social media.
LargeWooWoo t1_iy6c7iw wrote
Be careful just giving away animals online there are some sick people out there, maybe consider an adoption agency. Thanks for trying to help the cat, best wishes
