I got on the New Jersey Turnpike and took a ticket. My friend is driving and she doesn’t have EZ-pass. Somehow we accidentally got off the New Jersey Turnpike without going through the ticket lane. We weren’t exiting the highway but were continuing on to Delaware. Apparently the very two far left lanes were neither EZ pass or cash and somehow we bypassed the turnpike exit all together by taking those lanes. I was talking to her and wasn’t really paying attention to the route.

Anyways I’m curious what the fee is for missing that exit? Is it the cost of the entire length of the turnpike? Is there an additional fee for missed payment? can’t seem to find anything online regarding this

Edited to say I wasn't actually the one driving. Just riding along as a passenger. We are splitting the travel costs so just trying to estimate the cost for this mistake.

You will have to pay the fine and the whole turnpike fee. If you still have your ticket you might be able to make a case to just pay the fee.

Edit: Also get a damn EZPass and this would not happen.

Maybe the ticket is your way out.. it's time stamped.

I rarely take any toll roads so it hasn’t been worth it to me to get an EZ Pass but I missed the EZ Pass lane too so this probably still would have happened…

Sounds like you went through the express ez-pass lanes

Maybe. It was literally two lanes to the far left and there were no signs or lights over them. There were lots of lanes to the right that said ez pass only or cash.

And I should clarify by “I” I mean I’m riding along with a friend. The friend is the one driving but we are splitting the cost of the trip so I’m just trying to estimate what this mistake will cost is!

Your friend will get the violation in the mail and then he can call and work with them

If it's the first time, they will typically waive any penalty if you pay the toll which will likely be the max from the furthest entrance.
