You’re going to love NJ, welcome!!! I’m more north in Essex county, but what worked for me was directly calling companies that owned multiple properties in the area and seeing if they had any available units. I ended up touring a garden apartment with the resident manager, applying that night, and got accepted in the next couple days. It’s such a nice place and location, too, so I’m very happy with how it turned out! I definitely think the fact the resident manager met me and could see I was a responsible/respectful person helped.
