Agreed! My husband and I rented a lovely Airbnb in Mystic, CT, and took a wonderful day trip to Newport. I recommend both places.

Yes! That is a great stop on the way. I know OP probably doesn’t have kids but the aquarium was a cool stop and the seaport was great, especially being able to go on the ships and at the time I was there, the old whaling ship they were rebuilding.

Same! We went to Mystic with a group of friends a few times before any of us had kids, and we had a blast!

Enjoyed the submarine museum in groton on the way. It was a nice pitstop.
