This might a stupid question and might be useless to ask but my landlord tried to throw away my bikes that were locked outside of my apartment without notifying us or telling us to move it.

He has told us to move it before from our communal laundry room in the basement which we did move and transferred outside behind a gate next connected to our apartment. A little backstory, I left one day to dinner and came back and hour later, my bike and the other tenants bike gone, not even our locks were left there. We called our landlord FIRST and asked him if he moved them somewhere else that we didnt know of since he got no text or call from him tell us to move them. He told us that he doesnt know anything about our bikes being moved and said it might have been stolen. He told us that we shouldve kept in our apartments, well we dont have much space in there so we thought it would be safe it lock it outside. Our town doesn't have many bike theft and if there are, its usually in more public spaces near trains etc. Either way I didnt mind my bike being stolen because it was old and i barely use it. I was still mad it was stolen at the moment so I ended up filing a police report for stolen bike after my landlord hung up on me saying "if you dont have the space more somewhere else"

Two days roll around and today I notice my bike in the BACKYARD of OUR APARTMENT. I cant have access to it because there is someone renting the space downstairs that is connected to the backyard. We go downstairs and ask him if we can get our bike back which he says sure but then he tells us that our landloard TOLD HIM to THROW IT OUT that day we thought it was stolen. He didn't care to inform us that he didnt want it there or even care to tell us that they moved it or wanted it away. my landlord is so annoying and hates my family living here because he haven't moved out and he definitely just wants to jack p the rent price if we do move out.

Finally my question is is there any law or rights stating that this is illegal for throwing away my own belonging without warning? He lied to me about the bikes and i know he was never going to admit it. I know this is create a bad relationship between my landlord but i dont care.

my old NYC building would do the same if I left anything in the common areas. bike storage I had to pay for a special room or in the apartment

you can't just leave it anywhere you want

You could contact an attorney but do you really want to pursue all that over an old bike?

You can try but you wont get far if it was left in a common area

What does your lease say about tenant/personal property being left in common areas?

File a police report, detailing these events, calling it "attempted theft." Nothing will come of it unless the police decide to visit the landlord, but it will then be on the record.
