Many of you expressed concerns about Chari Chanley, the Monroe Township Superintendent who made the news last week for lashing out at a parent. A petition has just been created demanding an investigation and her removal.

There’s no way to know the truth but the board siding with her right away shows you everything you need to know

Don’t know anything about the situation but this lady is like a caricature of a shitty person from NJ, down to the almost comically exaggerated accent. “Voil lois!”

The Superintendent of Monroe Schools, Chari Chanley, was made permanent by the Board last year- she is BFFs with the President, Chrissy Skurbe. She used to be the middle school principal. She has a history of lying about her credentials, and a history of being unprofessional and lacking integrity. Since she's been made permanent, she and Skurbe have orchestrated a series of disasters for the district and its students, and have triggered a bunch of lawsuits and ethics complaints. Most recently at a Board meeting March 15 a parent came and exposed Chanley's past bullying behavior and she lost all sense of decorum, basically proving the parent right- the video is in the petition link.

NOPE, except the odd apology video when it reaches close to a million people nd a celebrity has to pretend they didn’t mean something they said.. but nothing ever happens after. might be different tho since shes a public official.. no idea what happened tho

OP — Are you the alternative choice for superintendent? If she is removed, are you next in line or something?

Love her! A strong, fierce independent woman. A shame so many want to take her down.

You think she's bad, Check out the Super for Central in Toms River. Never have I imagined an educator of children would blame a students suicide on her "vape use" and "well her mom un-alived herself so..." then double down on it. Disgusting, she was beaten and bullied relentlessly.

Johncamp28 t1_je7r5qx wrote

I don’t follow what you are trying to say?

There is no evidence in the allegations from either side but the board clapped for the superintendent..that’s just ridiculous to me

Unless I’m not understanding what you are saying

Imalawyerkid t1_je7r9ee wrote

Doubtful. Monroe is populated by a ton of crotchety 55+ communities that don’t pay attention to this stuff. Those people clapping after the troll lashed out at that poor grandma… that was the people voting for her. Small town politics in action here.

BlissfulGreen2 t1_je7rpum wrote

It’s possible that the Board has a lot of information (not discussed in public session because it involves a students educational records or health records) that led them to conclude the superintendent is in the right here. If that were the case, I could understand them showing support for their chief administrator. My point is that they may have very good reasons for publicly supporting the superintendent.

7

Johncamp28 t1_je7scpu wrote

I did not get that from your other post. And I want to say that yes you make a valid point but that looks really bad to me.

You can be right and look bad. A board shouldn’t just support their own and to me that’s what it looks like (whether it’s true or not as your comment says)

Strong women (and men) don’t respond to a story like that with “you’re obviously bringing up your horrible pain just to lie about me”. She appears to have the emotional strength of a warm mozzarella stick.

Talk about a superintendent. Dr. Labby from sayreville is like the Teflon Don, I have never seen so many things go wrong under one person's control. The Boys football incident, teacher's being inappropriate with students, and being arrested, and this superintendent still is employed by the township of sayreville. I have seen school superintendents get fired for less, and this guy still has his job. SMH 😲

People heard one side of a story and are brigading.

Not saying she doesn’t deserve it, if true. But the video was a mom accusing her of a lot of things. Then this lady vehemently denied it and said the mom was a liar.

She looks evil so she’s catching hate but if we are being honest we only have half a story. Not sure I’d be comfortable signing the petition based off just the video.

Dozzi92 t1_je892vz wrote

Petition doesn't have any real value so it doesn't matter anyway. You did hit the nail on the head though. The mom's story was awful, and as a parent I hate to hear it and think only of my own kids, but like you said it is only one side of the story, and a side with what may be considered a vested interest.

Someone comes to your work and says things you consider to be untrue publicly. What would you do?

Reminds me of my shitty BOE;

Teachers went over a year without a contract. The schools run through new teachers like water; they spend a year in the towns school system, then go somewhere where they're actually appreciated and paid well.

Apparently, one of the BOE members made a comment, "get in the boxcar," in regards to masking up during COVID, to a Jewish woman.

Town voted her out real quick after that one. Blew up a little too, on NJ.com. The mayor was quoted as saying "keyboard warriors," were causing a ruckus online, and "being mean."

That was literally the man's only defense.

God, does everyone's BOE suck?

It’s good to bring attention to these kinds of things but I wouldn’t sign this petition unless I lived in Monroe, nor do i think people who don’t live in that district should have a say in this petition. Best of luck to you.

What a vile creature. I'll use her as inspiration for my next D&D Campaign Charisma/Diplomacy boss. Hopefully the players destroy her. I will be using her likeness from the funny haircut, tacky suit, the bejeweled CC pin that no "public servant" should be wearing to a town hall, and of course, those wretched eyes. The most easy to hate NPC I've ever planned.

She wears a Chanel broach while she has teachers barely scraping by after suffering through the pandemic and buying their own supplies. That's more than enough reason on its own to hate her.

I’d say “that’s not true. And I have the documentation to prove it. I can show how I handled it.”

She didn’t say that. And she made it a he-said-she-said. Which was…. an interesting and immature choice to make.

The mom has evidence from the therapists at least. Hope she finds the police incident too….

I found it insane that they didn’t say anything about having the ability to prove it wasn’t true calmly, rather than lash out and look like she wanted to punch that moment in the face if they were off camera.

I went to school in Monroe, she was also my principle in middle school. I never had any interactions with her, but her husband was my history teacher, freshman year of high school; he was such an asshat. He was your typical “anti-everything” conservative, but his prideful ignorance and machismo brought it to the next level.

Also, after watching the whole video, I’m pretty sure I was friends with this girl they are talking about. This is really fucking sad. She was such a nice and funny person, I knew she was having issues, but I never knew all this.

randygiles t1_je9l3a5 wrote

Frankly her demeanor in her response shows she is unfit to be in a profession related to the upbringing of children. Unless she has since come out and said “I’m sorry, I was in a bad mood because of X terrible thing” I’ve seen enough.

StillNotWeirDanuff t1_je9oada wrote

Ummm…she presents evidence in a calm manner showing her side of the story? Instead, screams at parent, whose child is dead, and denied everything. Like I said a few comments down, my mother and colleagues can confirm she is a nasty woman.

I went through the Edison school system. Graduated in 2018. Our BOE has regularly consisted of the same 8-10 people if not all of them. Nobody wants to run for BOE because they won’t win, it’s virtually impossible. They keep trying to “diversify” the schools, and the school atmosphere. That’s a load of bullshit! They aren’t trying to diversify the district, they’re trying to make things easier for people more like them(the majority of the BOE is indian and Asian). They had cricket fields installed at some of the schools, I’ve never seen them used ever. They want to pass a referendum or whatever to pay for expanding some of the schools. Reproduction isn’t the cause of our fucking schools getting jam packed. It’s people moving in rapidly. If mfs stopped moving here, the schools wouldn’t be over populated. Instead of trying to raise our taxes, and use budgets on expanding schools, don’t fucking touch our taxes, install a/c in the schools(a/c was limited to very few classrooms if any), and stop people from moving in and enrolling! The school year has changed drastically too, from 2005 to now, I’ve seen so much bs taken and added to the school year calendar. Holidays used to be, 2-3 day fall recess, thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, Memorial Day, Presidents’ Day, and 2-3 emergency “snow” days built in. Now the damn thing has thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, and a bunch of random religious holidays not named Easter, Xmas, the fall Jewish holidays(I don’t remember how to spell them, parents are Jew tho…), and Passover.

So someone that stayed in school to earn their PHD and earn a larger income shouldn’t enjoy it or she deserves hate? Is it her fault she’s paid what she’s paid?

If a doctor goes to school and earns his degree and opens his own practice and becomes wealthy is he an asshole for driving a Bentley to work when the nurses drive Hondas?

Like that is such a ridiculous take. She’s entitled to earn and make money. Superintendents earn more. That’s the way it is all across America. They earn more because they take on a ton of responsibilities. They aren’t just showing up to meetings once a month.

If that’s honestly your threshold I’d have to say you’re a rather hateful person.

tonyprent22 t1_jeadveg wrote

She didn’t present evidence though. She just told her version of a story. That’s it. Absent of proof… I’m not about to just sign a petition to remove someone’s job based on a 5 minute video where two people clearly don’t like each other.

I also could care less about your mom and her colleagues opinions on their boss. Like 90% of the working world hates their boss. It’s not some random concept, and her being a shitty person still doesn’t “prove” that she’s not within her right to vehemently deny someone who is lying about her.

Again I don’t know the full story. And neither does anyone else here. It’s kinda appalling so many people are willing to call for this woman’s job based solely on her appearance and her reaction to a lot of serious accusations
