Wondering about the trajectory of Sparta? Spent time there as a kid and recently went back to visit. It seems as though it’s growing in a different or new direction? Does anyone live or work there with further commentary or observations?

It's a wealthy lake community surrounded by blue collar workers, same as it ever was.

Taxes are $$$ and there may be an HOA fee. Have a few friends that live up there. Really nice though

Beautiful area and nice place to live. It's considered part of the snow belt by many. I lived there for 5 years and commuted into the city. Would not recommend that to anyone.

Although I can't speak to the Lake Mohawk area personally, I've heard great things about Il Porto and Casa Mia.

Beyond Lake Mohawk, there are lots of new or thriving restaurants in the towns surrounding Sparta. A new Argentinian BBQ place opened on 206 toward Newton I've been dying to try - maybe 15min from Sparta. Stonewood Tavern and Halula Sushi in Byram are pretty good, and Black Forest Inn is great if you like German/Austrian food.

What do you mean by trajectory, OP? I lived in Sparta as a kid, and moved back 5 years ago. Sure, there is more traffic and there are more stores and even some 'affordable housing' now. But, the overall character has been preserved; it's still a wonderful place to live, surrounded by natural beauty and interesting architecture, with endless opportunities for recreation.

Industry is already open, and it's pretty good if you like spending your whole paycheck for a meal. Mohawk House may open up again, but the owner is being sued by a bunch of former employees, so the future is uncertain for that location. There's also a pretty good taco place (Tulum) that recently opened across the street from Industry.
