Still not enough. I had a friend do that then walk through tall grass like an idiot. His pants had at least 9 ticks trying to burrow into the seams of the pant legs. While the pants stopped them, they still needed to be plucked off and drowned in alcohol.
The way around this is to treat your pants with the permethrin chemical before you go hiking or such. That clinches the defense against them.

Shit, tall grass is a haven for chiggers. Ticks are bad, but fuuuuuck chiggers, they’re a nightmare.
