Be like me and just do auto replenish. It's great when they say "hey, we're taking $300 a month from you so we can fix that pot hole you just hit maybe next year".

Coming from Illinois, our iPass system has allowed you to set your own replenishment amount forever. They also auto deduct tolls from your account at the correct rate (and no fine) if your transponder doesn’t register but your license plate is on the account.

When I moved here the auto replenishment amount being determined by EZPass on their whim was completely fucking foreign to me. How is that legal? Why can’t I replenish a fixed amount that I specify or choose from a list of fixed amounts?

You aren't forced to use NJ EZPass. It gives you a small discount on the Turnpike/Parkway but only during off-hours. You might be better off getting EZPass from New York or another state.

New York EZPass lets you deduct tolls straight from your checking account. No deposit or replenishment amount. That's what I do.
