Wow.... I know we have smaller raptors in Union County but a bald eagle is really cool to see. Thanks for sharing.

Why does he or she look like he or she is about tell you you are in the wrong neighborhood?

In 2022, 267 nesting pairs of bald eagles were monitored in New Jersey. There are 250 active nests (meaning the nests produced eggs) and that was an increase of 28 active nests since 2021.
2022 NJ Bald Eagle Project Report is a pdf but it has a great map with every nest location.

I live in NW NJ and have seen one perched on a tree behind my property, one soaring above when walking on my street and another flew close overhead while we were at a nearby park. Love birds of prey, hopefully seeing many more Bald Eagles over time.

I had seen them near Mt. Tameney, never as far down as union county though. Actually, my wife spotted it on the tracks, we though it was looking for something.

You may have seen one from nesting pair 120 in Linden
I found a deer carcass nearby where I saw the one perched. There may have been one nearby.

Bald Eagles prefer scavenging over hunting. They actually only hunt when they’re truly desperate. They’re essentially vultures but with better PR

I live two blocks from the Audubon nest and I am so glad they come back every year. The female has gotten huge!

I saw three in Flemington the other day.
A full size adult was sitting on a road kill deer about 15 feet into a field. Two juvenile eagles were waiting for their turn on the carcass.
Not too proud to scavenge.
