For in person we love mezcal, but haven't been there in about a year, we have been eating a lot via delivery apps, uber eats and doordash. We've tried a few mexican places, but so far have been underwhelemed.
What do you all like?

Tomatillo. This is solely for the nachos though since if I'm ordering in, that's the star of my show. They're the best replacement I've found for Salsa Fresca's fire on the mountain nachos. The rest of their food is good, but definitely not mezcal good.
IXTAPA in Hamden. I swear at one point I was ordering them at least once a week
I don't know if it's on any app but Baja's in Orange is my go-to and worth the drive. Best chicken mole in the state imo.
2nd ixtapa. Its surprisingly amazing
I feel like the only one who has been underwhelmed by Ixtapa every time I go.
Mazorca and Orale Tacos in Hamden both deliver and are really good.
Orale is amazing
Taqueria Oyemales
This is it man
Camacho Garage in Westville is top notch, but on the fancy/pricy end of the spectrum.
You're not the only one.
Orales is excellent, but empanadas to go have much better empanadas.
Taco town in orange (used to be Japanese place: hayama) is AMAZING.
Such a hidden gem.
I always get the steak bowl and add shrimp. It’s pricey but they truly have the freshest ingredients; everything just tastes so damn fresh. My wife loves their quesadillas.
Moved here from California, visited family in Mexico over Christmas, and my verdict is that Mexican food in New Haven is very underwhelming.
To OP’s question, unfortunately I don’t think VivaZ delivers but I have to mention it as my favorite for Mexican in town.
I found it to be very underwhelming and extremely over priced. It’s a nice experience in terms of drinks and overall vibes, but I would hardly say it’s great Mexican food.
The OP was asking about availability on delivery apps and likes Mezcal. Camacho Garage seems like a good fit. Enjoy eating elsewhere though
Mazorca is our jam. Probably my favorite Mexican in the area. Tried Orale a couple times and didn't love it.
I don't understand the attraction. Everything is swimming in cheese and sauce. It's not very Mexican.
Sort of fancy Mexican fusion. Good food, but not a traditional Mexican restaurant.
Love the new Vivas! The old Vivas literally put American cheese on the nachos.
Mazorca, hands down
As another who's been through the authentic areas, I am stunned to hear Viva's mentioned. I will have to give it a whirl.
And you should see about Baja's in Orange, as well as the two on Dixwell in Hamden (Orale and Mazorca). They're both new-ish yet, but solid. Curious how you might feel about them.
Barring those - I still pine for El Charrito's, but don't get out to the Stamford/Greenwich border much these days.
I’ll check them out!!
This place is SO GOOD
Tacos la Frontierra
Ixtapa is perfectly fine, but since Mazorca opened I don't see myself going there too often
not specifically mexican but rubamba is pretty good even over delivery
we love rubamba! But as you said not mexican. Somos Arepas is pretty good too. And Soul De Cuba is on Door Dash.
taco santa ínes
mazorca fucking rocks the house down. that egg taco?? god damn
empanadas to go is a spot EVERYBODY should be introduced to. like as a basic social service.
no, me too. i want to like it, but once in a while they serve stuff that’s truly terrible, particularly via delivery. i once received a vegetarian burrito with, like… an entire carrot inside…?
I've been like three times and it's just always been incredibly bland.
You wanna go with me one day? We could just sit and eat empanadas.
hahaha, i totally do!!
Oh shit, we could sharpen knives and eat empanadas and talk about how ACAB!

The mole!
RIP Salsa Fresca! I loved their nachos and bbq braised beef

Try Don Rene in Milford. I’m not sure if Tacos Los Gordos delivers but they’re also very good.
