If you have some extra time google edgerton park or eli whitney museum. They are across the street from one another and both would make a great pit stop for the pup, and yourself.
Edgerton park is a massive rich guys old property which got made into a park really cool to check out (alot of people go off leash here)
Eli whitney museum has great trails along a river at the bottom of east rock, short medium and longer loops.
Enjoy NHV

Most parts of the Yale Campus are open, and anyone can walk near it, ie. Sterling Memorial Library.
Old campus is closed, and you need a Yale ID to get in, ie. the different colleges because they're dorms.
It's a city ordinance to have your dog leased. It doesn't matter where you are or how well your dog is trained unless it's an actual service animal, which is allowed anywhere.

Old campus was open during the day last semester. Unless that changed for some reason it should be accessible without a Yale ID at least during the day.

basically any outdoor area you yourself can access as a non-yale affiliate is fair game for dog walking. a bunch of the live-in residential college deans have dogs of their own. a lot of students love to say hi to passing dogs, too.

New Haven city streets/ sidewalks get you to/ adjacent/through all the beauty of the Yale campus or on Yale walkways that are “open” for public access. Use a leash just like on a city sidewalks and you can see everything

Lived a block away for a year while house hunting and we walked our dog daily on the XC or whatever it’s called. The quad area.
(I don’t know. I got my BS at Delta State U in MS. We don’t even rate the SEC.)

They have to run a credit report on your dog and they have to wear tweed.
