Hey Everyone! As usual this is a "moving to New Haven and looking for apartments" post. I did try to use the search function but I didn't see too much talked about with these spots (Some downtown/wooster and 2 in Hamden). I was curious of anyone's opinion on the following places. If anyone has any suggestions about safe places with 1 bedroom and parking for 2 cars I am more than happy to take suggestions! We are looking to move there mid June. My wife is going to be a fellow at Yales Hospital if anyone knows of any discounts/perks.

Below I added what info i could find about prices to hopefully help anyone else looking.

Olive and Wooster: https://oliveandwooster.com/

  • location – Wooster Square outskirts
  • 640ish sqft - 1 bedroom starts at 2,177 + 150 (1st car) + 175 (2nd Car) + assumed 250 utilities (water, gas, electric, internet) = 2,752 per month approximately
  • Might be a monthly $40 dollar amenity fee

The Whit: https://www.thewhitwoostersquare.com/

  • location – Wooster Square outskirts
  • 700ish sqft - 1 bedroom starts at $2275 + 160 (1st car) + 213 (2nd car) + assumed 250 utilities (water, gas, electric, internet) = 2,898 per month approximately

College & Crown: https://www.newhavencollegeandcrown.com/new-haven/college-and-crown/conventional/

  • location – downtown by bonchon
  • 630ish sqft - 1 bedroom starts at $2,300 + ??? (1st car) + ??? (2nd car) + assumed 250 utilities (water, gas, electric, internet) = XXXX per month approximately
  • Parking through outside vendor and not through apartment I guess – looks like $150 per car

  • location – Downtown / Wooster Square adjacent
  • 580ish sqft - 1 bed starts around $2,200 + $130 (1st car) + $130??? (2nd Car) + assumed 250 utilities (water, gas, electric, internet) WAS TOLD BY TENENT SHE PAYS AROUND $170 with internet = $2,710 per month approximately
  • Might be a monthly amenity fee
  • Parking is by outside vendor LAZ
  • Yale or Medical people get application fee waived. Unsure what that would be otherwise.
  • free month if rent with certain aparments rented for a year.

  • location – Hamden - 30 MINS FROM DOWNTOWN

I can’t believe the Hamden spots are same ballpark price as the New Haven one’s. Unless you are trying to actively avoid city life there is no reason to go for those Hamden ones. I’d put the Wooster Square ones at the top of your list so you can enjoy life outside of work. If she only Works and Sleeps then yes College and Crown takes the lead for closer proximity! All 4 of the NH ones (including 360 State) are safe.

Yea, there are cheaper places up there but my cousins friend lived in those complexes and loved them which is why we considered them. Also you get double the space and free parking which is nice.
I think at the moment we are leaning towards 360 State because the utility cost seem much lower and the grocery store right below the building. This coming weekend we plan on visiting these places so hopefully something works out.

I'm updating this as I get more info. 360 State got back to me with some more info. They also offer free parking the whole day of your visit so it's nice to take advantage of to walk around and check places out.

I used to work a bit around Townwalk and Aspen Glen, and the outside and property of those complexes are not maintained well. Plus, the drive from those apartments into New Haven can be atrocious and take over 20 minutes at certain times of the day. I wouldn’t live there for what they’re charging.

Did you happen to see any other decent complexes up there? Im head into town this weekend and would love to check other spots out. My wife is working as a fellow at the Yale hospital and as far as we know she might be splitting her time between the hospital downtown and one north of the city somewhere. But the program hasnt given us much more information other than that unfortunately.

Hmmm… there’s an apartment complex on the north end of the city on Whitney Ave called Whitney Modern. That’s supposed to be nice.

There’s also the Corsair Apartments off of State St that’s in a pretty decent location to all of the State St shops.

I don’t know of any other complexes between New Haven and where Town Walk/Aspen Glen are in Hamden.

Hope that’s been helpful!
