hello! so me and my girlfriend are trying to move from guilford to new haven atm, and recently have become interested in the westville village complex. its within our price range, seems reasonably safe, has some nice views of east rock, and is right down the street from pistachio, lower forms, mew haven, and a few other places we enjoy.

however, i have a pretty bad sensitivity to sound and an anxiety disorder, and the comments about the frequent fire alarms have troubled me. i can handle one happening once every couple months or so, but having it happen multiple times a month would pretty much make me unable to relax. we toured the complex last week, and our guide did say the problem had been fixed over the summer, but i've still seen recent comments on here saying some buildings are still dealing with it.

would any current westville village residents be able to give me some insight? are there specific buildings on the complex that we should avoid? and is there a good, quiet complex in the new haven area that might accommodate me better? we're flexible but we're trying to keep it roughly 1500-1800 a month for a 1br. thanks!

(for the record, im aware city living can be loud at times. this is more about specifically having alarms go off all the time)

Hi! I live there right now. The fire alarm problem has 100% NOT been fixed. Most recently it went off at 5:30 am about 3 weeks ago, then again an hour later. This happens about once or twice a month, and lasts 10-15 minutes, sometimes longer.

The walls are relatively thick, but I get woken up pretty regularly by my upstairs AND next-door neighbors fighting (I have had to call the police over some seriously disturbing domestic disputes that I can hear through the wall) and blasting music in the middle of the night. I can also hear the upstairs neighbor's dog barking pretty much 24/7. I'm assuming this is because the ventilation system is connected, and also because they are SO loud.

I will say too the complex is maintained fairly well for the size, but a few pipes have burst causing issues (i.e. the fire alarm to go off) and I'm dealing with roaches in my unit despite keeping my place as spotless as possible as a result of my neighbors being slobs.

Basically, what it boils down to your quality of living depends on who lives around you. It's a decent place to live and I love the location, but I won't be renewing my lease for next year. Feel free to DM me if you want more info.

really helpful, thank you! do you know if its a continued problem in all the buildings on the complex, or just yours? i saw someone in another thread mention it hadn't happened for them since the pipes were replaced over the summer, so i just wanna make sure.

That was me in the other post, it indeed happened again after that comment, twice in the early morning as mentioned above. I don't have issues with roaches or noise from neighbors, though.

Man I'm jealous you don't have roaches. I can handle the noise, the bugs just... ugh.

From what I understand the fire alarm is a continuous issue for all of the buildings. I've noticed a few times when I come or go from the complex that residents will be waiting out a building's alarm.

i saw your post too! i was more hoping to see if i could get some additional clarification on which buildings were having the problem more, since i saw a comment saying it was still happening all the time and a comment saying they hadnt had an alarm in months

I used to live there. If you take one of the alarms off the wall it won't go off in your apartment. Admittedly you have the risk of there being a real emergency but we took the risk and survived.
