Hi all! Just arrived in new haven a couple days ago and I’m looking to get a phone plan. This is my first time getting a cellphone plan in the US (I’m from Toronto). My iPhone XR is unlocked.

What are the best providers in the new haven area? In Toronto we only have 3-4 major companies but i notice there are so many here - hard to choose. Is it better to just get a SIM card and continue using my old phone or get a new phone with the plan? On average, how much are you paying for your phone plan?

I moved to New Haven from Ottawa 1.5 years ago. I noticed the US “big names” seem only worth it if you have people on a family plan. I’m currently on Mint Mobile (unlimited) and have no complaints! It’s been great and their international roaming is pretty good too. My old phone was broken so I had to buy one anyway so I’m not sure if there’s better plans but it seems Mint has great offers compared to what my friends are paying.

I'm from New Haven, so can't really compare to other places, but most people I know use AT&T. I've used Google Fi with success, but it may depend on what you use your phone mostly for. You can BYOD for both.

Been using Google Fi for almost a year with the flexible plan, it's great if you use a lot of wifi, the roaming is great and the reception is good. With the iPhone you need to manually configure the SIM card/eSIM but it's nothing impossible, the instructions are provided with the bundle and in the app
