Don't listen to that guy. There's no tourist trap. Go to the pizza places during the weekdays or earlier hours. New Haven is a foodie paradise. In New Haven it's a pretty good bar scene and restaurant scene on state street as well as downtown on crown and college. Also good live music in the city. Or catch a play or something at the Shubert. Book of mormon will be in town in March.
This guy lies. Pizzza is a tourist trap, stay away.
It's a foodie paradise if you've never been outside Connecticut.
This guy is a clown. New Haven is a great town to bike around. Great restaurants. World class museums. Best pizza in the world.
The pizza is definitely not a “tourist trap,” insofar as that term implies low quality pizza not deserving of its reputation. You may have to wait in line, though. In that sense, it can be a tourist trap. Try the popular places and pick your favorite.
New Haven is unfortunately not very bikeable. I’m seeing more and more bike paths everyday but they tend to go nowhere and end abruptly. We’re making progress on that front, though.
Willimantic has way better biking

No one here has any sense of humor.
Lost in translation.
“Definitely no diners” wowwww the pantry would like a word with you.
I dunno if agree with it not being bikable. Pre Covid there were plenty of bike commmuters heading downtown from east rock. I used to commute on an electrical skateboard.
Maybe a little harder to get downtown from somewhere like westville but even then I had coworkers bike to the office from there
Also Cody’s exists. Never been there but I know it’s there
I saw lots of bikers on Ridge Rd. in Hamden. I think they go through East Rock Park.
I ride a bike everywhere and while some sections aren’t nice or bike lanes it’s not particularly complicated and the city is mostly flat and geographically small.
It’s definitely doable but you’ll be next to parked or moving cars most of the way. As someone who watches Not Just Bikes, there is much to be desired.
If biking from Westville, you can take newly installed bike lane along Edgewood Ave it gets you nearly all the way to down town.
Ernie's Pizza is as good as those on Wooster Square without the crowds. Westville has Pistachio, Mew Haven Cafe (obviously not the best place if you are allergic to cats), and my favorite Manjares. On the east side there's Koffee?, Katalina's, and Olmo Bagelry.
All of the above. Cosmopolitan pizza? Is English not your first language?
Don’t miss some of the under the radar pizza stops. I’m a big fan of Next Door, Nolo, Atticus Market (weekends only), Frisco’s, Zuppardi’s, Mike’s.
Bugger off. I travel everywhere for work. It’s one of the best per capita places to eat in the country. Period. Some big cities I struggle to find food as consistently good.
New Haven is super Bike Friendly btw. The most pedestrian & bike friendly city in the State, hands down.
Ernies is key
could just be spell check error for Neapolitan. Which is Italian for someone from Naples. Not really English.
It's a foodie paradise.
Oh, I guess so. The only true Neapolitan style pizza in New Haven is Zeneli, though. The OG’s were just founded by Neapolitan immigrants.
You're not missing much. It's definitely a diner.
For Thirty years, people been acting like Ernie’s should be in the conversation. Its not and never should be. Ernie’s is on par with the best pizza outside of the Tri-State area. But we happily drive past it on our way to Zuppardis when we want something a little less traditional l, and would gladly drive all the way to Roseland in Derby of Ernie’s was the only other option. Even Da Legna has a more legitimate argument for being considered an authentic New Haven Apizza house than Ernie’s does. No disrespect.
Plenty to be desired, but it's come a long way in the last decade or so. There are racks on all the buses (probably the biggest game-changer), bike lanes, sharrows, public racks, etc. Including bicycle lanes and other considerations is now written into the city code. We would all love separated lanes, but those will take time. We have always been in the streets next to parked and moving cars. At least there is some warning to drivers now and a slowly growing notion that bikes should be in the street.
I do prefer all those to Ernie’s too. And Next Door, and Mike’s. But Ernie’s is good. Just not in my top tier.
It’s worth remembering that New Haven is 40% transplants
