I'm moving to New Haven in June 2023 and would like to be as close to Yale New Haven Hospital as possible, but planning on keeping my car so would be open to other areas.

When should I start really looking?

Are there particular apartment complexes that people have liked or disliked? Also open to townhouses/houses!

My budget would be ideally under $2000 for a 1 or 2 bedroom but can flex up to $2300 if needed if there are better amenities like in unit washer/dryer. Also have a cat!

Avoid the property management companies Mandy, Pike, I think at least one other one I’m forgetting

That's good to know, thank you! Is it the nickel/diming sort of avoid or the rats in the walls sort?

There's a pretty active fb group called something like "yale off-campus housing" (assuming you have or will have a yale email) that regularly posts people looking to room, sublease, or transfer leases to new tenants.

Lol the last time I legit used it was in college (also to find housing), which was a longer time ago than I like to think about!

You can afford to rent anywhere you want. Try visiting the city in April and imagining where you might want to spend all that money on rent. Check out the new luxury apartments in The Hill, they are probably nice and super close.

Thanks for the tip about the Hill! And good to know I don't have to sign too far in advance
