Just moved to New Haven! Choose a pretty safe area but thinking if it'd be worth adding some extra security. Did you add any security features to your apartment? Home owners feel free to share your experience too but thinking mostly about what's worth it and what's over kill as someone with an apartment.

My new home is a unit (not ground floor) in a multi family home.

A simple start to a security system is adding a smart doorbell as it's intuitive to see who's at the door without going downstairs as well as making sure those porch pirates don't steal my booty.

Anything else you'd recommend? Pretty unfamiliar with security systems so a bit of learning to do.

If you’re worried about porch pirates, I recommend just getting packages delivered to an amazon locker or to your office. Sorry I know this isn’t what you asked but once a package is stolen there’s not much to be done.

Also, buy renter’s insurance.

Simplisafe has an apartment package and you can add on their video doorbell. That worked well for my friend

Also have a simplisafe, the basic package is perfect for your typical apartment and I like the camera option!

Before you start spending money, what are you thinking about by security, and what do you want to achieve?

Cameras that alert to your phone like ring or arlo are cheap and effective.

Your personal safety is the main issue IMO. Keep that in mind when you get a home security system. The bigger danger is when you’re outside the home.
