Glad I’m not the only one…I understand the law of supply and demand, if we need this many storage facilities, we need to rethink what it means to own something.

My wife’s biggest fear is that the theater will turn into another one instead of being re-vamped and re-opened. I told her at this point they’re more likely to turn into a storage facility that stores other storage facilities.

Didn't an auto dealer buy the theater?

Didn’t know. I hope not.

I know someone who has 5 storage units, but is sleeping at someone else's home and has been for the last ten years. She's always complaining about money and others getting more than she gets and just ignores the hundreds of dollars she is wasting hoarding old and dirty crap. I had to use a storage unit one time to hold my stuff before I moved, it's good for that, but seeing small towns with 4 storage facilities is just insane.

Coffee factory or grind rail trail cafe?

Derry has never had a local coffee shop, bakery or a gas station with good coffee?

Cumberland Farms????
woolsocksandsandals t1_j1u586t wrote
Oh no. No. No. No. No. Cumberland farms has never in the life of the franchise in all their locations ever dispensed a single cup of good coffee.
That’s too bad. Selling good coffee is such an easy small business opportunity. Makes me sad when towns only have national chains.
GreatGrandaddyPurp t1_j1umav8 wrote
Cumberland farms is cheap and great. Get off your high horse.

Their coffee is and always has been disgusting. Raise your standards.
ForklkftJones t1_j1w4qbk wrote
I am definitely not a coffee snob and I will drink coffee from the sketchiest of gas stations, but I won't buy Cumberland coffee ever again. No matter which one I went to, the coffee was just crap.
GreatGrandaddyPurp t1_j1x2jnx wrote
Really? In my area cumbies is consistently the best sketchy gas station coffee around. Don't be afraid to add in all their goodies like vanilla and hazelnut. Mmmh I might go get a cup right now.

You haven’t lived until you’ve experienced a coffee/donut shop, laundromat, gas station and bank all in one building.

There was that coffee place on broadway next to Cumbys that’s now a Gold buyer or something. Is it still a gold buyer or something?

They do have a coffee roastery place/cafe in one of the shopping plazas I know that.

I’ve been trying for years to get my wife to open her dream of a bakery/ coffee shop. Many years ago we tried to approach the landlord in the old blackberry bakery shop and the guy was a dick. She’s gonna try and do it from home first before anything (at least the baking thing). We have Carinas here in Derry but I personally don’t like her stuff.

As long as it’s not another bank or storage facility. The problem with Derry is location. A lot of bigger businesses won’t come here because of the awkward location off 93. Exit 4A is supposed to alleviate this but I’ll believe it when I see it. You wouldn’t believe how much developable land is in the area of Robert Frost farm and clam haven - but it’s not easily accessible for businesses to be profitable (hence the storage facility and bank debate)

God forbid they build apartments there during a housing crisis… nope, what we really need is more corporate retail that only stays open 35 hours a week because no one can afford to live on those shit wages.
sdemat t1_j1wu7bl wrote
It’s funny you say that because I feel like a lot of the older generation here would complain about that, making it a “double edged sword”. They’ll complain that the apartments add to higher taxes because it puts strain on the school system and the amount of taxes that developers and complex owners pay is always way less than the value (because of all the abatements filed). I remember back in 2016 when I sat on a town committee I looked up the property taxes and values for some of the larger complexes like the fairways. They’re all owned by out of state entities that abate their taxes every year. They were still fighting 2011 taxes back in 2016. Granted these are also the same people that complain that Derry needs a “target or kohls” not understanding the fundamentals reasons why we will never, ever get additional big box stores.

How have you avoided an Aroma Joe's?
KPizzle3Chainz t1_j1wxr7o wrote
I avoid Aroma Joe's because there's no left out of that spot and by the time I'm going that way and still taking a right the line is on to Crystal Ave and noone wants to be that dick stopped in a line on the main road. The coffee is okay.

Thought for sure when I first saw that going up it was going to be a Chipotle. Bummed when I saw the Starbucks sign.

Now you’ll have to have a $4 burnt coffee instead of a $12 room-temp mediocre burrito.
chain_me_up t1_j1umtyu wrote
Just ask for blonde roast, it's not burnt and actually pretty decent. Dunks and Starbucks almost have equal pricing at this point so I'm definitely looking forward to more Starbucks!

Parents used to take us to McDonald’s on Crystal Ave on Saturday mornings for breakfast. Back then, a very friendly family owned the franchise and cared about quality. Now that place is a cesspool. Blake’s nearby was our spot after football games in high school. Pizza Hut was one of my brothers first jobs, just across the street from Blake’s when the post office was there too.
