I received excellent help from the VA in NH/VT. I am extremely grateful. It's not perfect, so I encourage vets to be persistent expressing their needs.

I agree. I'm very thankful for the VA. Not perfect, but good enough - especially after 2010 or so.

I hope they did get better. My grandfather drank himself to death because of PTSD and the VA had no interest in hearing what I had to say. He had a check up where he was given the all clear and he died of a heart attack a week later. He was drunk in the office and told the doctor he barely ever drinks but like.... Seriously, he was slurring, smelled like beer and I had to push him in in a wheelchair because the walk would be too much for his heart. He popped nitro like candy. That was 2005. I was a teenager so I didn't realize he needed an ER and a LOT more than the VA could give so I asked for another appointment with a different doctor but he got belligerent so I left. I had my aunt follow up with them but I wish they had intervened somehow. I don't blame them for his death whatsoever, I was just very upset I left under the impression he was doing okay as far as they were concerned. Maybe they saw him as a lost cause but he was the only adult in my life that was supportive and caring and I was not ready to give up on him. Anyway, you don't need my life story, I'm just hoping they're better than that now.

Surprise, it's our critically underfunded VA and fucking PEER SUPPORT.

No wonder so many cops claim they fear for their lives in a normal incident. Of fucking course they fear for their lives. They've got untreated PTSD. They can't have a normal trip to the grocery store without fear for their lives.

I had a friend whose fiance suffered severe PTSD from Afghanistan, he would wake up in the middle of the night, grab his gun and run outside and down the road with his gun drawn. He was pretty jacked and our small town cops didn't really know what to do. They started patrolling that street at night more, sometimes parking at the end of the road out of sight because they knew it infuriated him for them to be watching. He did some peer support stuff but it didn't help much. He started collecting semi-automatic rifles and my friend thought I was being a bitch by bringing up any concerns and we stopped talking. I really hope he got help eventually as he was a nice guy at his core. But man his head was warped from being over there. He needed way more than peer support.

There's a system in place for this. Do nothing until he kills himself. Or, if he is a rare type, he will murder some people then kill himself. Nobody bats an eye

I've had pretty good luck at the WRJ VA vs. the Manchester VA.

WRJ seems to get more funding due to the pilot programs they run there.

Are you advocating doing violence against the government of the United States of America?

This subreddit is straight stupid.

No, you fuck. 90% of vets are more than likely fat and we'll out of shape. The only thing we could take over at this point is a pizza line.

We fucking communicate and stick together. Vote out the fucking plutocratic politicians. Pull funding from extremely stupid contracts that costs extreme amounts of money for stupid contracts and use that money correctly.

But I digress. Some fucking dipshit is going to say something contrarian because they wanna feel smarter than they actually are.

You did a good job putting a bunch of words together. Unfortunately, they don’t add up to much of anything coherent.

I do agree that there’s a lot of dumb people in this sub Reddit though.

So… what did you mean by “it’s almost like our skill set could be used to protect the constitution and average people of the United States” that sounds a lot like the tough guy talk people spout when they talk about over throwing the “tyrannical government”.

Trying to get me banned? You're a POS.

For some reason, maybe because of Hollywood or the games on market, people think the US military is some extreme fighting force.

No, it's fucking not. Without doubt, the special operations community gets some special loving when it comes to training, but the majority of the infantry functions are taught the fucking basics and then these basics are re-iterated over and over again.

Physical training? It's the same shit from the 50's even though the amount of support from sports medicine/kinesthetic specialists/other experts have attempted to improve training to be less damaging to the body.

I could go more in-depth, but I doubt it aligns with the context you're trying to push. The only skillset that makes any veteran useful is the ability to communicate and stand together through adversity.

What fucking use is fire and maneuver when you have NO ONE using mortar or air support? Oh, you wanna assault a building with a corrupt politician? Do you have intel on them? Do you have anything besides your cosplay grade Kevlar?

Overthrowing a tyrannical government is a fucking pipe dream. But kicking corporations in the dick and yeeting this political puppets is the real goal.

I cannot fathom the audacity that these people have, that just talking will repair physical injuries. Let alone repair fused disks.

averageduder t1_ixywwt8 wrote

Really doesn’t seem like the point the article is attempting to make at all.

mmirate t1_ixzdnx3 wrote

What else - other than attempting repair of the fused disks even if it meant guinea-pigging for medical experiments, or at least attempting to control the length of time the fused disks are consciously experienced - could possibly be the objective in life of a person with fused disks?

EDIT: you should be ashamed of yourselves. Downvoting questions instead of answering them.

Be useful and happy? What is your answer?

mmirate t1_iy3e4ph wrote

I don't have one. It's not a rhetorical question or something.

TarantinoFan23 t1_iy3kxs1 wrote

So you're mad that people are not answering your rhetorical question?

1

mmirate t1_iy3mmik wrote

... that's backwards. A rhetorical question is one to which the asker does have an answer in mind.

Not necessarily.

a question asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer. "the presentation was characterized by impossibly long sentences and a succession of rhetorical questions"
