Boy. He picked the right house I guess. If someone was banging around in my basement with an ax, they’d be leaving in a bag.

Yeah, I'm a gun owner but that mentality is super gross. It's like they don't realize that simply HAVING THE LOADED GUN is all you need. No need to actually shoot them.

Meanwhile, we have people in this thread literally discussing how to word the interaction with the cops so that you can play target practice with a human.

It's so fucking gross.

This guy was literally out of his head, and you're saying he'd somehow

  1. Know the gun is loaded

  2. Have the presence of mind not to rush the homeowner with the ax?

He’d rather be a nice guy and hope the police arrive before the guy fuckin massacres his family. Personally, I don’t take chances when it comes to my family’s lives. No one should be inside a strangers domicile period. Lol. In the fuckin basement? The home? Get the fuck outta here. How old was this clown? 30s? Your actions have consequences.

It's always so weird watching people cream themselves over a chance to murder someone.

Not creaming at all. Hate putting up with stupid bullshit. Lol you’re a clown. This guy is a clown. He made the decision to do drugs and enter someone’s home with a lethal weapon. Someone is in your basement in the middle of the night with an ax…. Yea just calmly call the police and hope they get there before he beheads you and your family. Go bail him out and get him the help he needs bro if you’re such a righteous person.

Yes, lock him in the basement and call the police. There's no need to get involved with a manslaughter investigation by shooting him. Plus you'll need to clean up all the blood and risk giving yourself something from an accidental exposure. As long as he isn't attacking your gas powered appliances or the door to the rest of the house, let the police deal with him.

Then there's always the tiny chance he's your uncle who's playing a surprise trick on you. Plenty of people have shot relatives or family members thinking they were burglars.

Maybe he did once, and maybe he could once again.

I feel for these people and don't wish to write them off entirely. But if you're in my home with an axe, that's another story.

and depending on how you articulate your position to the cops when they arrive, you'll spend at most an hour in cuffs while the prelim investigation is done.

"I was faced with an erratic dude with a weapon and genuinely feared for my/my family's life"

Two schools of thought when dealing with cops. First is the general do not talk to or cooperate with cops. The second is carefully talk to/cooperate with cops and then shut up. While I'm generally in the don't talk to cops type, the second one would apply here.

Two good vids that are worth the watch:

Don't talk to cops: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE

Carefully cooperate with cops in a self defense shooting(I'm not a huge Ayoob fan as he is occasionally one of the some animals are more equal than others type people, but he is spot on here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIJ4wLP_0UM

It is sad for sure. I've unfortunately known a few formerly successful individuals succumb to their addictions regardless of the help we provided. Nobody wins when it comes to meth.

Lol this is getting downvoted. People prefer the methhead with an axe in the basement to the people protecting themselves from unprovoked threats. Solid society.
