I agree. I’ve seen some other paintings of Winni and Squam that were similar, a lot of painters from this era were fairly generous with how they represented the mountains around New England

Hudson River School artist, Thomas Cole, did a lot of painting in the North Country and Lakes Region. But there were quite a few at that time period because New Hampshire was a pretty hopping tourist attraction back then as well.

Big lake with mountains next to it on one side= Squam. And to be clear, it is very inaccurate and exaggerated. But assuming it isn’t mirrored, this would be looking roughly towards the northwest with the sunset on the left, and Red hill being the closest hill on the right, the largest mountain in the back right probably being Whiteface, and the sliver of water just to the left of what may be Red hill would be Kusumpe or Intervale pond. Directly above that pond may be a dramatized version of the Sandwich Notch, an old road with historical significance that used to be the main access to the White Mountains in the 1800s.
A long time ago there used to be a well-known school/farm/mansion on a prominent hill in center harbor overlooking the lake. This view could be from there.

Currier Museum did a large retrospective of NH locations in art a few year back. They may be able to help ID the artist.
