Day trip advice for college students?

Dartmouth student trying to get the hell out of hanover for a day trip and enjoy some scenic views without running into my professors. Any advice on some destinations 1.5/2 hours away that have good hikes/nature with good food and town atmosphere nearby? I've heard that White Mountain and the Lincoln area were good, but didn't want to miss any gems.

Try rattlesnake trail in Holderness. Great views. Fits your timeline. Easy hike.

When you say hikes, are you talking mountains or more flat? The taller mountains will all have snow/ice on the top this time of year. If you’re trying to avoid that and don’t mind spending a little bit of money, flume gorge is amazing and is about 2 miles round trip. I’d highly recommend that, and then grabbing food/drinks in Lincoln. Tons of great places, my personal favorite being Woodstock Brewery.

Definitely the white mountains, North Conway is a fun town with local hiking but also nice coffee shops and whatnot. Not sure if you’ve ever been to New London but its much closer and has got a cute downtown and some easy beautiful hiking trails. Easiest is Clark’s lookout but if you’re up for it Andrew Brook trail is pretty epic.

Instead of NH, I’d suggest heading into VT. The Northeast Kingdom (Burke, St. J, etc.) are really cool spots to hang out. Stowe/Waterbury area are great as well and would maybe offer better hiking.

Reasons I suggest VT are A) less chance of Dartmouth/Upper Valley folks out and about and B) everything has a different feel once you cross the border, so could be more of an “escape”.
