Is nearly the same patchwork as always. NPR is such a waste of money

Its only called gerrymandering when the opposition has drawn the lines.

It's amazing how people will rationalize cheating to get their way. Personally I'm against all cheating I don't care what party does it.

Tune out the noise and Vote!

+10% seats for Republicans is by definition, not the same patchwork. It is by definition and intent, a Gerrymander.

Using a straw man argument like, NPR is a waste of money, is bad faith argument.

Stop worshipping republicans. We are simply talking facts and you’re melting down.

Honest question, and this might be my ignorance showing through, but why do all of these districts (here and in other states) always tend to favor republicans? In other words, why do republicans always get to set the district maps?

We need a neutral entity doing this. It's always going to be political otherwise.

It's done by committee but when a party has a majority it's going to tend to favor the party of the majority.

Since we don't have any rules to make it a 50/50 thing, it's always a risk for runaway gerrymandering for future wins.

valleyman02 t1_iu198yk wrote

That's kind of the point though. It's not just a risk it's guaranteed. Politicians should never get to decide the districts. Although if I can set my own salary then I'll let them pick their own districts.

When any group is in power, they'll do whatever they can to hold onto that power.

Democrats won't make it completely neutral either unless they give the power of the decisions to a neutral third party that is able to stay truly neutral. A computer program that draws district lines based on clear and transparent guidelines would be about the only solution I'd trust to be actually fair.

Republicans are a centralized monolith run from the top down which engages in perfect political strategy. Their policies benefit the top, and are wildly unpopular, so they funded down ballot races to change the political rules.

Democrats are more grass roots and do not play politics the same way. They are resigned to winning elections with popular policies.

They don't. In dem states they favor dems, in republican states they favor republicans. This is not a secret and it's been going on longer than we've been alive

ralettar t1_iu1sikm wrote

It’s only “gerrymandering” when Republicans define the districts. Otherwise it’s “equitable vote distribution.” Go bitch about real gerrymandering in other states like Illinois and Maryland.

Billionaires pay strategists and think tanks to come up with lists of phrases and talking points. Fox News, Breitbart, WSJ, talk radio, and politicians repeat the talking points. Republican voters hear this and repeat the lists too. That is how it has worked my entire life.

What are you smoking? Democrats are the most diabolical politicians of them all. See Harry Reid using the nuclear option, Nancy Pelosi “deeming” Obamacare into law, the continual harassment of the previous president the entire term and since he left, what they did to Kavanaugh, the list is endless…!

And this stuff doesn’t exist in the Democrat Party? They’re just a grassroots organization that has success because their policies are popular? They don’t have any media conglomerates regurgitating their propaganda?

In 2019-20 when Dems controlled both chambers they sent bills to Sununu to use a neutral entity for redistricting. Sununu vetoed the bills twice.

Because Republicans put more effort into winning state and local elections and so control more states. But blue states like Illinois and Maryland do the same thing in favor of democrats, there are just less blue states

GDP up 2.6%, unemployment at historic lows, manufacturing jobs at historic highs. Biden is doing what Trump said he'd do. Strengthening the US economy, strengthening US reputation and influence around the world.

China, Russia and Iran hope Repubs take control of the House to tie Biden's hands.

Sorry, passing legislation which helped tens of millions of Americans gain access to healthcare is the opposite of “diabolical”. Reducing pain, suffering, and death of Americans is the result of improved access to healthcare.

Donald Trump is credibly accused of committing many felony crimes. No American is above the law.

Kavanaugh was credibly accused of sexually assaulting multiple women. Investigating a SCOTUS nominee for credible rape accusations is just.

You are living in an upside down reality.

Ideally Social Security in its current form would no longer exist. It’s a forced garbage retirement “plan”. I don’t know how to go about getting that done in an effective manner but the government has zero business in planning for our retirements and thinking they can do better than we can on our own. Disability is a different story and should be treated as such.
