Oh, like actual family court, I thought it was like a law or system specific to NH lol, but also googling it to make sure that wasn't that led to me finding out that my local district court has a one star rating on Google maps lol, like who the fuck would go to court and be like, "My murder trial was a very pleasant experience, 5/5 stars"

Only partially kidding. As in not kidding if you say yes.

In all honesty, the most beautiful thing I've ever seen is Diana's Baths. I'm as previously stated jaded by family court, but you wouldn't believe the waterfalls that are up here and they are just as beautiful in the winter :) yet probably almost as cold in the summer! Still worth a swim. When you read no swimming such as Glen Ellis falls, it just means it's too cold too swim but no one cares. That's worth a Google, and make sure you bring your camera errrr cell phone you'll have it, nevermind.

The first time I went was last year! Always amazed, I'm 38 years old and I'm still discovering hidden beauty here. Perhaps I should collect the tourist pamphlets.. Thought I knew all about NY until I read them when I left 😂 what a bummer I missed out on a lot.

No one will take me snowboarding because I suck at it, so I can't help much there. One nessessary left out piece of advice no one here would think of!!

When your hands are cold, and you come inside you've got to run them under cool, then lukewarm, then warm water. Going straight to hot will bring on unimaginable torment. Also, insults are our very different sense of humor than the south. No one is picking on you, they expect you to insult them worse and for it to be funny. Make it count Brother.

moving to new hampshire for college is literally the funniest thing i have ever heard. highest tuition rates in the nation, with instate rates higher than out of state for some IVY LEAGUES, thats an insane decision to make. and nh schools are incredibly stingy with scholarships as well. even i go to college across the nation specifically because my oos rates are half of what my in state would have been in nh. so…you willin to share some of that gold you obviously are rolling around in?

The best part of NH is you’re an hour or two from EVERYTHING. Beaches, mountains, small cities (Manchester), slightly bigger cities (Boston), farmland, outlet shopping, hiking, lakes, rivers… everything but desert. It really is pretty amazing you get it all right here.

The worst parts? Well… no pot is a problem.

Seriously though, as much as I adore living here.. Reports made to our division of children youth and families about non-sexual abuse in schools and potential custodial abuse of the students I served at work resulted in them telling me that other people had bigger problems, and that my employer might retaliate because I called. Even though I was a mandated reporter!! F***** u*. Unless someone was being eminently raped or murdered they literally do not care. I found that in that world laws and statutes are very much applied in a discriminatory manner. The youth detention center named after the current governor's family has a horrifying history of sexual abuse and it's blatant that the government does not care and does not intend to help. I fear for every poor child that ends up there.

personally i think the best part is no sales tax. no stressful rounding up in the middle of the store to estimate if you REALLY have enough for something. the worst part is the winter. its freezing cold, snows for like 7 months out of the year, and doesn't get warm enough to melt any of it throughout the season so old snow just becomes frozen dirt. their go to conversation starter is always along the lines of "do you ski or snowboard" which is an insane thing to hear when you're accustomed to believing skiing is a rich people thing. no sunlight whatsoever. its like every house and building in this state was somehow constructed with all north facing windows no matter what side of the house theyre on. i moved here from coastal north carolina a couple years ago and firmly believe these people have to have some kind of altered genetics just to be able to stay awake through the winter without going through psychosis.

also i noticed in another comment you said youre from new mexico, this next thing isnt a "bad" thing per se but just something i think is worth mentioning. im 100% white and speak english only, but all throughout school and growing up everything was always in english AND spanish. announcements were made once in english and again in spanish, school documents were double sided with english on one side and spanish on the other, wet floor signs were double sided the same way and advertisements were english with spanish subtext. my first day of school, after they said the english announcements and turned off the intercom, caught me so off guard. i mean it makes sense really there arent a lot of spanish speaking people in new hampshire. i thought maybe since they're closer to canada they do it in english and french instead of english and spanish but they just do everything in english here. not bad but kinda confusing when youre not expecting it

edit- would like to add that i dont have anything against nh, im just not a fan of that particular season. its a beautiful state all year round (especially fall)

OP, just a heads up: you'll soon learn that MA and NH have a symbiotic relationship.

The metro Boston economy is the lifeblood of all of northern New England, with its universities, hospitals, tech companies, investment companies and research labs. The area offers lots of social activities and cultural opportunities.

Southern NH is a bedroom community with tax free shopping and good schools. Neighbors know each other. People have actual land. With real grass.

Northern NH has all the outdoor activities you could ever want in a place where seasons are actual seasons, and a very relaxed vibe.

Pay no attention to the MA haters on the thread. They've just got a chip on their shoulder or a general bad attitude. These are both great states and we welcome you!

What college are you going to? Former college student here. Loved my college days experience here (went to UNH in Durham). Been to all the schools once or twice including Dartmouth. People are surprisingly friendly but also don’t take offense if people just walk fast and ignore you. NH does well at being friendly but respecting your neighbors privacy if that makes sense. People are pretty punctual out here. As others said our summers are world famous and our winters are infamous.

You’re going to need a car at some point to really enjoy the state/New England as a whole. I couldn’t have a car freshman year but did sophomore year on.

New Hampshire is beautiful. I see a lot of people here talking about cost of living--I imagine that's all relative. Worst part of NH is the politics, there are some backwards Trump towns and lots of morons there, but it's turning bluer every day and I guess you can find that pretty much anywhere.

I did the opposite, moved out of state for college then came back to northern NH. Best(to me) is that politics still feel real here and people can have productive conversations and make a better life for their community. Worst is that most young people after college move out of state because there are way more job opportunities elsewhere so finding young people is hard.

Pros: beautiful scenery (you'll never find a more beautiful place on earth than NH in the fall), skiing, essentially no dangerous animals, limited bugs outside of summer time, quiet, low crime rate, no sales tax.

Cons: Winters can be rough at first if you aren't used to the cold, cost of living/housing/utilities, one of the whitest states in the country, not a ton of culture, property taxes are stupidly high.

Meh, I did the math one day and save about $10k overall (i.e. between property and income taxes) over what I would be paying if I lived in MA, and I'm in a high-tax NH town. That's not even including not paying a sales tax (although our prepared meals tax is kind of high). I do live in a smaller home than I could reasonably afford though.

Best: No seatbelt law(although it's a good idea to wear it), no helmets(same), no sales tax, it's beautiful, pretty safe, people are nice for the most part, open carry(if you like that sort of thing), if you live in a rural area like I do, you can actually see stars on a clear night, depending on where you live, not much traffic.

Worst: winter can suck bad, depending on where you live, property tax. I like it too much so can't think of anything else!

NH is great for a lot of reasons. If you’re going to UNH, you’re in proximity to a lot of great areas and have pretty easy access to getting to Boston. The fishing in NH is incredibly underrated, the striped bass are already making their way up here, it’s a great way to take everything in. Portsmouth has a lot of great bars and cool things to see, as well as making your way up north to Conway or places like that.

A “negative” as a former UNH student is that NH itself doesnt have a lot of the things that we as young adults might want to do, but like I said Boston is but a train ride away. I spent way too much money on Celtics and Bruins tickets simply because I could go.

Everywhere is great to go and visit, but I’d be hard pressed to find an area I’d be happier living in. Live Free or Die

I came from NJ years ago and I always get a chuckle from people complaining about property taxes here. I mean yeah, they're high, but they're still way less than what they are in the area of NJ that I'm from. To your point, I'll take no sales or income tax mixed with higher property taxes any day, it's still more affordable than a lot of other areas.
