Moved out of my old rental and they charged me for the last billing period which was 14 days. I wasn’t even home for 11 of the 14 days. Electric heat was always off and I didn’t use the washer and dryer during that time. I pay $0.22566 per kWh. This doesn’t make any sense to me. How am could I possibly use that much electricity in 3 days?

I did. They weren’t helpful. In fact that’s what it came to after they bumped the bill down from 214 from a wrong cutoff day

How do I dispute it? They showed the meter reading but it makes no sense. But idk how I could average 35.7 kWh per day and not be there for 11 of them….
Is there a water heater, well pump, sump pump, or dehumidifier? Any of these can make the meter spin. Also, if you had the heat off and ran it later to warm the place back up, the usage will be greater.
Also read your own meter and compare that to the reading on your bill.
Water heater yes. I think I showered there once and maybe did dishes as I was staying in an Airbnb. I don’t think I turned on the electric heater. I had gas and use that as well.
Hot water heaters are always running if you are using the hot water or not, it’s still trying to keep the water hot.
Barely. A newish hot water heater might only kick on a couple times a day for a few minutes when you aren't using hot water.
What's the minimum fixed charges?
I’m not sure, I never saw anything mentioning fixed charges. Is there a certain type of language I should be looking for?
I would check the meter number on the bill with the meter on the side of the house. Also, like others have said, check the actual reading on the meter to make sure it lines up with what is on the bill.
Do you share a building with other people? The same thing happened to me and I figured they just divide the total amount of energy used equally among people. Which is really infuriating.
Yeah it’s a split home but there’s two meters and I had to start service on my floor when I first moved in
Either the last meter read was estimated, the wiring is messed up and they’re billing you for neighbors’ usage, or your electric heat stays at a safety temperature (50-55F) when you set it “off,” so some idiot tenant doesn’t freeze the pipes when they leave. My money’s on the last one, personally. Electric heat thermostats are pieces of shit that lie to you.
