I have a 2016 Honda Civic that had the AC fail out of warranty. This is apparently a known common issue with this model. Otherwise the car runs like a champ. The dealer wants to charge over $3k for repair and over $500 for just diagnosing the problem. My local mechanic can't do it as it uses a newer refrigerant type.

Anybody know some local places (I live in SE NH near MA and the coast) that would be able to do the repair? Thanks.

There’s a Honda/Acura master technician in Pelham. He replaced the failed AC unit in my 2006 CRV back in 2011. Gary Wang, good guy. I haven’t been there in many years, but I’ve been going to this guy for Honda service since 1998.

AC failure is common on civics because the condenser sits unprotected in the front grill in front of the radiator..

It could be a bad compressor but you might just have a hole in the condenser from road debris. If that's the case, you'll need a new condenser (aftermarket is fine) refill the system with the correct amount of PAG oil and a refrigerant recharge.

Any average shop should be more than capable of doing the job. Hardest part is taking the front bumper off.

You can call Pellerin Motorsports in Pembroke and see if they can help you they’re fantastic and super honest. They’ve done a few jobs for me where they quoted me a price I was fine with and it ended up costing less and they charged me last when they didn’t have to I would not have known the difference. And they do great work.

Canobie Lake Honda in Salem, NH.

The AC stopped working after the warranty period so we were kind of out of luck. I didn't have any bad experience with the dealership when I bought the car, so I don't have anything bad to say about them. Obviously a little disappointed of a failure like this with a hefty price tag for repair and my regular mechanic can't fix it as he doesn't have the capability to work with the new refrigerants.
