In light of the Oscar Controversy where no female directors got nominated, it got me thinking, were any of my favorite films directed by a woman? Out of my top 30 films, only one was, and ironically it's American Psycho, directed by Mary Harron.
Now this really isn't surprising since most directors especially in the 20th century were men, and women when they are directing don't really direct films that appeal to your typical MCU, transformers, fast and furious fan etc, so they don't get much exposure. Not saying those franchises are bad but you know what I mean.
Edit- Guess it needs to be said, this does not mean I think any of the women directed films should be have been nominated this year based solely on the fact they were directed by a woman (haven't seem them anyway so I couldn't tell you), and yes I know the last two best picture winners were women. The controversy just got me thinking about my favorite films and wanted to see what other Redditors pick.
