I never understood why Karen Allen's Marion Ravenwood is hailed as a feminist icon or Indiana Jones' best romantic interest.

I watched Raiders of the Lost Ark and Allen's Marion spends the entire movie getting kidnapped and being held hostage. Aside from the plane fight, Marion was pretty much a tag along but because she's a tomboy who knows how to drink, the fans love her.

Capshaw's Willie Scott had a more active part. She was a fish out of water so everything she goes through, she doesn't know how to handle it, yet as the film progresses, Willie becomes more independent and assured. She even saves Indiana and Short Round from being squished to death at one point.

I even enjoyed her shrill behaviour though most didn't. Spielberg wanted to add that screwball humor from classic movies into Temple of Doom and I thought he did it, to counterbalance the more horror tone of the movie.

It sucks Capshaw's most famous role is the one she's reviled for. I happened to enjoy her character. But that's that.
