first, I'd say there's nothing like it... but for recommendations maybe Safety Not Guaranteed or The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

Ok I doubt it's like that movie, but it ticks your other boxes...

Amadeus is one of my favorite movies. It's a masterpiece IMHO. Excellent writing and phenomenal cinematography

I just watched Swiss Army Man, same director as Everything Everywhere. I laughed my ass off, it's a weird one but you may enjoy it

If you're looking for the wacky comedy:

  1. Kungfu hustle (not sci-fi, but you will laugh)
  2. Swiss Army man (dark )

For the comedic sci-fi:

  1. Matrix?
  2. Rick and Morty (it's an animated series though)

For emotional sci-fi:

  1. After Yang

Someone else said it, but About Time also has that great emotional aspect, while not quite as deep on the science fiction part

any of wong kar-wai’s movies, maybe in the mood for love to start. his movies are where they pull the “movies star” universe from

Big Fish covers pretty much all of that with the exception of the Sci fi.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (beautiful, fun, and unique)

The Big Lebowski (everyone must watch once, just a classic even though its weird)

What We Do In The Shadows (funny, fun watch, tv show is good as well but the movie is great)

Palm Springs (fun comedy, emotional moments, unique vibe)

Children of Men (very emotional)

Little Miss Sunshine (a fun watch, always guaranteed to put you in a good mood, one of my favorite movies ever)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (sort of science fiction technology wise, very emotional)

The Truman show (a classic and smart)

The Green Mile (NOT FUNNY, emotional, heavy, slight fantasy to it)

Dead Poets Society (emotional and a classic for sure)

A lot of these movies will be good to watch with your wife, because they are nice to talk about afterwards. I hope you enjoy them! Let me know if you both end up watching/liking any!
