Donnie Darko directors cut

Just saw the movie for the first time and it was okay but it dragged a bit for me, then I realised I watched the directors cut which was 20 minutes longer than the OG 😭 is the normal version any better? Not a bad movie by any means but not really as good as people say especially considering how the concept seems like my kind of movie

The directors cut is the worse version, no question, particularly for a first time viewer. In addition to messing up the pacing of the theatrical cut, it feels the need to spoil all of the ambiguity and mystery of the film by over-explaining all of the metaphysics/supernatural elements.

The theatrical cut is way better than the Director's Cut of Donnie Darko; some of the extra scenes should have been included as extras on the discs, but the director's cut really messes up the pacing and flow, has a worse soundtrack, imo.

The directors cut additions are mostly those interstitials focusing on Roberta Sparrows book, which in turn explain away most of the mystery and a couple of song changes on the soundtrack.

Ohhh yeah I thought that was odd that they basically explained it but yeah, also I saw alot of hype for the soundtrack but can't say I noticed anything great? Appreciate u answering tho I honestly was so confused watching the movie expecting something better

The Director's Cut is considered vastly inferior to the Theatrical Cut because it strips away a lot the ambiguity.

Donnie Darko is one of my favourite films ever, and I really hate the directors cut. It completely destroys the mystique by literally showing you pages of The Philosophy of Time Travel, really stupid decision IMO.

It's not just that it drags, the directors cut changes songs, messed with the tone, and spells things out that were originally mysterious. One of the worst directors cuts you could possibly watch.
