I don't understand the comments, but I thought it was called the sword of destiny in the PotC fandom. When Calypso tells Will he has a touch of destiny about him, on re-watch I thought it was this sword she was foreseeing.

The sword doesn't't cause things to happen, it is just there throughout Will's journey. In the first movie it's clearly just something to connect Will with Norrington. Later they planned it such that Will will get killed by the same sword.
