Hmm, if I get enough good recommendations, I might push the number up. I was considering GDT’s Pinocchio because I love stop-motion, but I’ve heard EVERYONE talk about how good Puss in Boots 2 is. What makes it so good?

Puss in boots 2 is just very funny, the animation is beautiful, the story is also great and tackles some pretty adult themes in a very unique way.

Yeah. I really liked both. I probably liked puss in boots better just because it was a little more entertaining but Pinocchio is beautifully done. I’d give them both great ratings.

I’m sure some of these others are probably 2021 also. I just count movies by when I get to see them, and I didn’t get to see Tragedy of Macbeth until it was released on AppleTV+ in January. I tried to do it the other way and count movies by their technical release date but it got to be too much of a hassle waiting for some. movies to come out a year+ later that released the previous year, like at Sundance or whatever.

This was released in 2021 but was released on streaming and VOD in 2022 so I’d argue it counts.
De uskyldige (The Innocents) is a Norwegian supernatural thriller written and directed by Eskil Vogt. It’s about a group of young children who live on a Norwegian housing estate and hang out together in the woods when all the other kids leave for vacation in the summer. The children start to develop strange powers and the film takes a very dark turn.
It’s filmed in a very naturalistic way and the child actors are amazing making it even creepier.
One of the main characters is severely autistic and the child actress playing her does an incredible job of portraying it.
It’s in Norwegian obviously so expect subtitles but if you can handle that, this is one of the best movies I have seen in years.

The whole idea of a director making a partially autobiographical movie about a vacation with her father and using it to try to explore the mental problems which lead to his suicide five years later was fascinating to me. The movie accomplished its goal in a masterful way.

Yeah, I saw that it comes out tomorrow. Have you seen it? I’m a Damien Chazelle fan, seen his other three movies, and like each one only slightly less than the one that came before, so I’m assuming the trend will continue?
I’ve got Decision to Leave on my list to watch. I’ve heard it’s really good.

Ive seen Babylon twice and I absolutely loved it. Initially I had given it a 5 stars on Letterboxd but on the second viewing I did notice some minor pacing issues that caused the movie to drag just a touch. Overall though I thought it was excellent

Hell yeah! The Place Beyond the Pines is so underrated. Love the music and cinematography in it. Boogie Nights is one of the best put together ensemble casts ever. Love that movie! Spider-Man 2, inarguably the best Spider-Man movie. And Goodfellas is suspenseful. Love Joe Pesci. So iconic.
