Return to Oz is more accurate to Frank L Baum’s original series. Dorothy is supposed to be younger than Hollywood portrayed her when Garland did in 1939. Overall, the books are supposed to symbolize the working class struggle against the Industrial Revolution that was rapidly changing social constructions (like farmers needing land to farm and teachers teaching small groups instead of dozens.)
