Rewatching it today - absolutely love this movie. For me, one of the tragedies about the lack of box office and subsequent lack of sequels is not knowing anything more about the mimics and the mechanics of the time travel powers. Has the director or anyone else ever shared any additional lore/background info on ideas about the mimics?

Yes the book is excellent. The movie copies some things from the book but they both stand alone. Great read.

It's good too. There's a different main character and ending, but same premise otherwise.
Ragnaarock93 t1_j1x2xwl wrote
It was also adapted into a manga with the same name.

Yeah, both the manga and the book are very good. Honestly, this is probably the best film adaptation I've ever seen. They changed a lot, but it didn't make it bad, just different.

They honestly should have kept the title. Edge of Tomorrow is so… generic.

Apparently the word "kill" wasn't considered marketable enough to a wide audience.

Has anyone listened to the Audible "Edge of Tomorrow (Movie Tie-in Edition)?
Author is Hiroshi Sakurazaka
I want to listen to the original novel (since my reading skills are pretty crap), but don't want to hear the "movie version" of the book.
Any thoughts?

Yes, it's the original story and not a novelization if that's what you're asking. By "movie tie in edition" they're referring to the cover and title, like when a book gets made into a movie and they change the cover to the movie poster.

I too enjoyed this movie.
I love when he's like over all the shit, and getting his suit out on and explains to the guy he doesn't wear the helmet anymore, and what items and ammo he needs lol.

Nah, movies like that are cool BECAUSE there is no cheesy sequel that answers all the questions that made it thought provoking.
A40 t1_j1wd9o3 wrote
It's origins are a short book and manga, both called 'All You Need Is Kill' if you want to look into original themes.

Badder-Meinhof. Just watched this last night.
She uses the helicopter blade as a sword, because she kept running out of ammo.

Good point. I though the comically large manga sword was more for the propaganda posters, but that’s practical.

I was at the gym on an elliptical and decided to start this up. I ended up on that elliptical until the end of the movie. Could never in my life predicted that this movie would be one of my favorite views of the year.

Introduced this to friends two days ago. Since learning that the mech suits were 85 ish pounds, now I watch and have questions like “How are they running in those? Got to be wire work.”
It’s such a well acted and shot movie, and I’m also glad it’s its own thing and not a franchise.
Also, why the pearl clutching in the film that Rita is the Full Metal Bitch? She’s a badass bitch.

She clearly didn't like it. That's why she fucks up the dude that calls her that name.
fxbeta t1_j22iz2g wrote
The "dude" that calls her that and gets smacked is Emily Blunt's younger brother.
Scarif_Hammerhead t1_j23w41m wrote
Okay, that's hilarious.
Scarif_Hammerhead t1_j23wa5f wrote
Yes, get that. It would have been an insult for the character Rita in, say, 1990. It just hits my ear wrong, that's all. It is played for laughs, too.

Looper channel on YouTube has several videos that explain the time travel part and others on creating it.

Great movie.

The manga it's based on had them looking a bit different. They looked more round, and looked more like giant rounded starfish that shot spikes out of their legs. No face/mouth/eyes or anything. The ending, was VERY different.

It's criminal that there wasn't a franchise spawned from Edge of Tomorrow.

Making a franchise out of everything is exactly whats wrong with the industry today.

I have an idea for a sequel if any of you guys are sitting on $200m for a budget. My fee will be very modest.
As humanity recovers from a Europe in total devastation with millions of toxic Mimic corpses rotting/rusting in the countryside, tension arises when the Allied armies in France reach the Scandinavian armies in Northern Germany and the Russian/Chinese armies moving in from the east.
The threat of the Mimics remain. They could easily send a second invasion force, and a militarized Earth now need to gather to face the new threat. Lt. Cage still controls the Omega power, so he takes on the new task of researching how to build a space ship in record time, by studying rocket science all day, and dying by evening to reset the day.
Hollywood, call me.
After_Hovercraft7822 t1_j1xvu2d wrote
Cage loses the power towards the end of the movie, soooo…

Did he not regain it from the Omega after being a washed in its blood?
DerCatzefragger t1_j1z0pzz wrote
My personal theory is that he didn't lose or transfuse enough blood in the hospital to lose the power.
During that last push to the Louvre in the transport carrier, our boy Cage is still pulling off too many amazing 360 no scope one shot behind the back kills for me to believe that he hasn't done this stretch of the mission a few thousand times. I think the difference is that he's figured out his fellow soldiers will perform much better if they think he's lost it and this is there 1 last shot at victory, no take-backs, no 2nd chances, permadeath.

You can always go and read All You Need is Kill, the light novel the movie is based on.
