See how Jack Black and Charlie Day actually put some work into the character voices? And you say the OG voice is to annoying, but they need to make sure to add the 'Wa-hoo' with the Go-karts? They KNOW the fans want the OG voice. And we do not need to hear him often.
He was a lazy Hollywood choice. Many other, better Voice actors (some already hired on this film) could have done Mario better.
I like Chris Pratt but I'm upset that a smaller voice actor, who was perfect for the part, got shafted for celebrity A-list power.
>That 'stupid' voice in the Mario game is exactly why Chris's Mario voice is in fact wrong.
That voice works in the game when he just yells short phrases and exclamations. It would not work in a movie where he needs to speak in full sentences.
I do get how Mario speaking the whole movie like Martinet would not work as well as it does in the games (since he rarely speaks anyway), but Pratt's just been on acting-cruise-control the past few years and SMBs doesn't seem to be an exception. Hell, if he wasn't already (and wonderfully) voicing Bowser, Jack Black would have been perfect as Mario
Exactly. I love Charles Martinet's voice in the games. It's perfect. But two full hours of dialogue with that voice would get old. It doesn't really work over extended periods
I'm kind of out of the loop here. Mario never even talks in the video games. How is his voice 'wrong'?
Those five minutes were fatiguing enough
I prefer Mario with a Brooklyn accent. Chris Pratt's accent isn't convincing and, for me though probably not for the kids the movie is for, it's too easy to tell it's Chris Pratt and not a character.
It would almost pass for third place at a no-notice, surprise "Rocket Raccoon as the ninja turtle Raphael" impression contest. So that's something.
I've listened to Italian people speak English and it's fine. It's not like it would have to be a comical Mario parody where every five words in a sentence is read like one of his short catchphrases. Though I'm fine with the American accent.
You know what’s a little nuts about the trailer?
How much it feels like Wreck it Ralph.
I think the whole thing is way overblown and people will be used to the voice about five minutes into the movie.
He's got a bunch of short quips like, "It's a me, Mario!", or "Mamma mia!", with a strong Italian accent like
From the trailer it sounds basically just like Chris Pratt with a hint of a Brooklyn accent at a couple points.
I'm honestly still a little confused that, if Chris Pratt's playing Mario, WHOSAFUQ'S CHARLES MARTINET FUCKIN VOICING???
Go watch the original super Mario movies, that was acting at its best. This is only half sarcastic
Wreck it Ralph did feel like it was taking some inspiration from Mario and Donkey Kong to begin with lol
Wreck it Ralph was a good movie. So, im up for it
I own it actually. Both still sound better than Mario in the game
I agree. I love the games but would rather be deaf than listen to game Mario actually talk.
This was supposed to be a reply to someone else, my bad
Same lmao

I think that I would have preferred actual voice actors head this one. But I agree. People think they want the game voice but they definitely would not like it.

I think the latest trailer makes it sound like he's unsure of himself when delivering his lines. It doesn't sound offensively bad or anything, he just sounds the weakest of the little bit of dialogue that we've heard so far.
