I keep seeing this sentiment on Reddit, but weren't the alien bugs actual monsters? It's been a while since I saw the movie, but weren't they like sending asteroids crashing into Earth for no good reason?

The reason the bugs were flinging rocks at the Earth was because Earth had been invading their territory and worlds though an expansionist doctrine.
