An ending that could have been an ambiguous disappointment if Darabont had followed the book, but instead he put a perfect cap on the movie and allowed us to see Andy and Red reunite

I love the ending because it doesn't involved them finding $100 million in gold or something like that --- just two friends reuniting after a long time in hell together, and realizing that life is worth living regardless of the past

Actually, for once it was the studio who intervened and gave us a great ending. Darabont wanted the book's ending
