come hell or high water is a pretty good western

Picked this movie up from Best Buy for $10 in 4k. Just got done watching it and man am I surprised how good it was. The last western I watched before was unforgiven years ago.

However this movie was different…. It felt like a modern revision of how life is like today robbing and stealing. It gives you a big reality check that you can’t get away with anything no matter where you live. Anyways, I really enjoyed the movie….some parts I thought were a bit long that didn’t need to be but overall I say pick this movie up and add it to y’all’s collection come hell or high water.

Definitely one of the more memorable modern Western flicks, I passed on the 4k but I definitely need to give the film a rewatch, it's been years!

I could watch Ben Foster do almost anything & still be entertained. Great film.

Fantastic film. Be sure to also check out Wind River, the film that Taylor Sheridan made after Hell or High Water. It's a brilliant crime drama

I liked Hell of High Water enough, though I thought the third act escalated in a baffling way. But to me, Wind River is by far the better film. It's overlooked in comparison to Hell or High Water. And even though Hell or High Water looks more aesthetically like a western, Wind River has more of the soul of a western (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean).

It's just 'Hell or High Water' but yeah it rules, best Modern set western since No Country for Old Men in my opinion

The movie kind of builds up the brothers as having a somewhat noble justification for their robberies, and by extension, they themselves are somewhat noble, even if Ben Foster is a bit of a loose cannon. The final shoot-out is just a matter of buying time for Chris Pine to get away, so I have a hard time buying the fact that Foster takes deadly aim at law enforcement and kills a cop.

I'm not claiming that that's a result that should never happen, but I guess I didn't feel like the movie did a good enough job showing us that Ben Foster had that much hate and ill-intent in him to do something like that.

I thought it was pretty damn mediocre, not bad and not great. Wished the cowboy from Mulholland Drive had been there to set those boys straight.

I think they do show us when we find out that he killed his father when he was a child. Yes, he was defending his mother but it shows that he was capable of killing at a young age. He even tells the Comanche at the casino that hes enemies with everyone.

Tanner always planned on not making it by the end. His motive was to make sure his brother got away with enough money to save the house and help his kids. Killing the cops puts the focus on himself and not on Toby.

The genre is called ”neo-western” as it combines classic westerns with modern life. It’s possibly my favorite genre.

Here are some really good ones: Wind River, No Country for Old Men, Cold in July, Nocturnal Animals, Galveston. I suppose you could add Sicario to that list, although a bit more international and grand.

Yeah, I remember those moments. Just wasn't convincing enough for me personally. And yeah, it's obvious that he was going for suicide by cop, but I think he's already got their full attention by pinning them down and delivering pot-shots from a high powered rifle. Still don't think there was strong enough justification to outright murder a cop. No point in debating further. We are both remembering the same facts, just interpreting it differently.
